explain this to me

what do stores mean with core charge, ect

whats the deal?

They need the old unit you are replacing back so they can ship it back to the manufacturer and have it rebuilt.

The charge i would say is to ensure that you bring back the old unit. Also the store gets credit for those old units they turn in.

Say you buy rebuilt calipers that are $40 with a $15 core.

At the counter, you pay $55 and then you bring your old calipers back to them when you're done replacing them and they give you $15 back.

Yes...precisely, I usually just remove the old part and turn it in when I buy the new one. That way I only have to make one trip /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

That works too...but make sure you take a different car to go get your calipers if you do it that way. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

so they dont make new parts anymore?
just rebuild old ones?

[/ QUOTE ]No, but rebuilts are alot cheaper then new.

if you want to keep your old parts, just go to a pick and pull and pick up a "similar" part and return that. I've never had them actually check them.

I can remember (though not lately) there used to be big $$ in core parts. There were people that collected all they could....alt's, generators, calipers, waterpumps, master cyl's, etc. ....must have sold them directly to the remanuf's /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif
