Corp 10 vs corp 12 brakes

Some insight on this is highly needed,My wife's 79 k5 came with a 12bolt rear end,Well the pinion bearing is shot due to the PO's lack/non service of the diffs after mudding at the local hole and 6 mnths later I buy it as a dd/wifes truck and we are haveing a issue with the rear axel and have a 10 bolt out of another truck but has no brakes and was wondering what parts i can change without having to spend alot on a bandage till I can find a 14blt for it,????Some photos of the mud I drained out of the rear and it took 27hrs to drain..

SO if you can give me some info-links it would be highly appreciated:bow:

I believe that it will all change over, you will just need to swap the backing plates along with everything else.

if the backing plate is the samebolt pattern,it may fit.you have to check the distance from the backing plate to the mounting surface of the drum on the axle shaft.if it is the same the brakes should swap over.

I've directly swapped 10b brakes on a 12 b axle with no issues

Same here, there are 2 sizes that I am aware of 2" and 2.25" I think, but they work on either axle. Just make sure you match the drums to the backing plates.

Thanks for the insight, well update the parts will switch, but warranty on parts purchased from Checker(now O'reily's since 14 mnths ago)the drums will be here on Tuesday so maybe Tuesday night mamma will be back on the road.

So was this axle being driven on for 6 months with that mud in there? It looks like it sat in the hole for 6 months. Everything sounded OK?

I am not sure how long they drove on it,But when I put new fluid in it and drove it had a whine/growl so we have swapped in a 10blt gbomb with the fly weights tied shut and are currently hunting down a 14blt and some new chairs.

I changed my 10 bolts axle for a 12 bolts one month ago or so and i used the existing braking plates and drums from the 10 bolts cause the 12 ones were in very bad shape.
Everything was the same .Drum size, shoes widht,w.Cyls ...

Every thing swiched and upon investigation the crappy lift blocks from autoreily's
have the pinion angle at about 2deg so now need to find a very cheap way to fix it
