I was looking through the tech articles and seen that the front axle dana 44 6 lug can be coverted into a 8 lug. I was wondering if you can do the same with a corporate 10 bolt up front. If you can let me know, also what parts are needed for the job. The list in the article only shows parts for a dana 44. Thanks

you can swap the front over but not the back. you can get a 14 bolt cheaper than buying custom axles for a 10 bolt. the whole reason for swapping to 8 lug is strength. if you try and swap the rear over your still gonna have a weak 10bolt

Since you specify a 10 bolt up front, then yep, it's doable -- and in fact exactly the same as a D44, since they're the same from the spindles out. (At least, exactly the same as later D44's ... early D44's have different diameter spindles or somesuch.)

Same thing can be done on a 10b. I believe you can even use D44 backing plates, spindles and hubs. I know the calipers will interchange (banjo bolt threads are differnt from D44 to 10b though).

Edit: I gotta stop walking away from the computer with CK5 up....the other replies weren't there when I came back.:doah:

don't know if this helps. i recently swapped in 3/4 tons in my rig. 14 bolt ff in back and corporate 10 bolt in front. front axle looks identical. swapped locker in to front from 6 lug, new u joints, ball joints, bearings and seals. everything was identical except brake caliper backing plates. didn't find out until putting on calipers after everything else was done. the 1/2 ton plates are about 1/4" different and will not allow enough clearance for calipers and pads to fit around rotors. had to take hubs back off, bearings, spindles, rotors, and put 3/4 ton plates on then reassemble. that was the only difference. everything else is exactly the same. figured i would share this, hope it helps. also i got brand new 15x10 eatons and had my tires swapped over. had to grind down calipers and backing plates for them to work. went wheeling for first time last saturday since swap. huge difference with 4.10's vs 3.08's in stock axles. well worth the swap with just that.
