Since I have the fuel system out of the 78 k5 i'm debating if i should weld in new body panels. it needs rockers and every fender well is rusty. Also the supports are rusty. I'm not set up for welding in the shop. What does it cost to he an autobody shop weld in new body parts?

If you have to ask you probably can't afford it...

I spent well over 40 hours doing what I considered to be minor rust repair on my buddy's truck. Safe to assume a body shop will only do that sort of job 'hourly' and their rate is likely near to $80/hr.

Much cheaper to buy a welder and do it yourself.

you'd be better off flying to Arizona, buying another K5 and driving it home than to start paying someone to do rust repair.

I'm willing to pay $2-3K to get the work done. Not sure if that would cover it. I would do it myself but it is not feasible where i live.

that might get ya thru primer if it's got a fair amount of patching to do...

big degree of difference in bodywork quality, from guys stuffing newspaper in holes to, well, the way I do it.... :o

you generally get what you pay for.... and bodywork can be time consuming when done right...

So your talking turn key repair then?
Meaning you do nothing on the repair?
This will get pretty expensive by the list of rust you stated. If you could have someone reputable do the repairs, then you or a buddy shoot paint on it, that would help your budget. Also replacement of panels is sometimes more cost effective, than repairing them.

I'm actually not all that concerned about how it looks. I would not mind rattle can painting it. I just would like to get the cancer out and some solid metal on it. If I had a place I would learn how to do it myself.

If you drive it in the salt, you'll never get rid of the cancer....JSYK
