Cost to rebuild a 14bff??

You will need wheel bearings, seals, gears, master install kit, detroit locker, etc. It will not be cheap to get the rebuild done if everything needs replaced but it is the best way to know that the axle will last.

I have about $1000-1200 in my 14bff rear after a complete going threw with new gears, bearings, seals, brakes, detroit locker, etc.

Do I still need a different length driveshaft, or will it work as it is? Being that it's 1350s, does that mean it's a "1-ton" driveshaft and I don't have to worry about breaking it?

Any other good sites to buy all the stuff from? Anyone suggest going to a local parts store so I can see what I'm getting and make sure I get all the right stuff?

On a side note, this is a perfect time for me to set up my Electrolysis tub... I'll build it big enough to hold a whole frame, drop the whole axle in there, and watch the rust fly off... no wire brushes for me...
 
I bought a Yukon rebuild kit for $89....
It came with Timken bearings...National pinion seal...shims...and marking paint.

I just rebuilt a 14bff...with used gears and bearings for $30...
Oh..I installed a Detroit...that I got from Tim...that was $375.
 
Cool... hopefully, it won't take too much work... after all the rust is removed, it should be pretty decent...
 
picking up the 14bolt today... how should I transport it?? I don't own a trailer, nor do any of my neighbors...
 
I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that all 10-bolts had the odd-ball Saginaw 44 (S44) u-joints. 12-bolts got either 1310's or 1350's depending on the tranny. The S44 is about the same diameter cross as a 1350 but the caps are smaller (I've been told it's close to a 1330). It'll bolt into the 14FF yoke, it'll just be a little sloppy. I drove mine like this for a week before I figured out the problem. If you've got the S44 driveshaft, the S44-1350 conversion joint should be Napa part # 447. If 1310 (12-bolt trucks), the 1310-1350 joint is 348 (I think). Hope this helps.
 
I've never needed to rebuild a 14FF. Always come across them too cheap to bother. Mix & match brakes as necessary.
