Hey, sorry I've been off the forum a while, I ended up gettin rid of my K5, but I'm probably getting an 88 in two weeks. One problem though, I have to drive my truck down from Chicago to North CarolinaI've got a new set of mud terrains on a set of I think '03 sierra rims right now sitting in my garage. Problem is that those rims, 16's don't fit on the axle of my 90 k1500, which came stock with 15's. However, if I turn the rim around, the 16's fit without rubbing on anything. I'm wondering if it's safe for me to run the rims flipped like that. I really need to put the new tires on the truck, so if it's safe to run them like that I will. Thanks a bunch, and I'll probably be back on here real soon when I get back into the k5 world.

The lugnut seats are tapered and only work one way. If you flip the wheels, the lug nuts will not stay tight.

Interesting. I ran my old k5 with regular nuts the entire time. That's just what it ran. I'm not trying to insult anyone, I'm just curious as to why this won't work.

Those newer rims will fit your truck. Why do you say they don't fit?

We talking about an 88 truck or k5?

1990 k1500 shortbed. The rims may fit, but the rims on them are 285's, and when I go to put them on the tires rub against something up above the axle on the suspension. If I flip them the tires stick out past the fender flares, but the 33x12.5's on it now do that anyway.

Stock rims and 285's will fit FINE on that truck. Run them correctly.

Ok. Let me state this again. I have 2 sets of wheels and tires. One set is a set of 15's that have 33x12.5's on them. One set is 16's that have 285's on them. The 16's have a different offset than will fit on the truck with the tires on them. The 33's are worn down real bad. I need to drive 16 hours straight on saturday. I want to put the 16 inch rims on backwards with regular flat nuts like I ran on my K5 for 20k miles if I can. Simply saying you will crash and die doesn't give me any better advice than I had before.

Why bother asking if you don't want to hear the answer?

As a favor to the driving public (at least on this board), please post your route and times so people can stay away.

It is unsafe, period. 1, the suspension can't take the change in load like that, you are putting HUGE stress on BJ's, etc. 2. The rims will not center properly, will shake like crazy, and the lug nuts will losen. 3. You won't be able to turn unless you destroy your fenders with a sawzall.

Crash and die was everyone's way of saying that it is ABSOLUTELY not a good idea. You will risk your life and the lives of those around you. Don't do it.

Not sure what your issue with the newer rims is, i ran 01, 04, 07 rims on my 94 (same as your 91) with NO issues.

Thanks DH. That's the kind of info I was looking for. I'm pretty perplexed as to why they don't fit either. I guess I'll drive down on the 33's and hope they don't blow out.
