The stock 86 454 motor in my K30 seems to run great, but seems like it could do much better. It has around 135k miles on it. Doubt it has been rebuilt. Read on here somewhere that the stock heads and intake are very restrictive on these motors. I know the stock Q-jet needs to be rebuilt and the motor needs a good tune up. This is going to be a offroad only truck. The cats are already gone. Would putting a aftermarket intake on help much with the stock heads. Probaly going to put a set of long tube headers on it. No smog pump. Going to take off the AIR,EFE, and all that other smog egr junk off of it. Any other ideas to wake it up some??? One other while I am at it.. Going to get rid of the saddle bag tanks that are on it and put a tank between the fuel rails. Can I use the tank off of my 89 blazer with tbi to use with an 86 454 with carb??

The heads don't really breathe well, they pretty well quick around 4500 rpm. As for the tank, it will work you'll just need to add a fuel pressure regulator.

Look for some "781" casting heads and have your local machine shop fit them with the larger 2.19/1.88" valves and open the bowls up a touch and then add the correct intake port manifold and that engine will come alive.

Could I just take the fuel pump out of the blazers tank and use the sending unit and pickup tube from one of the saddle tanks so I could use it to feed my q-jet.
