I acquired a truck that had a 700r4 that went bad so previous owner tried putting a th400 in it. Well I had to pull the th400 out and replace torque converter and flex plate. I now have it all hooked up, but where do I need to hook the vacuum up to? I seen an old thread that said in the back of the intake, would that be the plug that’s in the top?

Also second issue, when I bought the truck, it didn’t have any antifreeze, it didn’t run for more than 1 minute since I have owned it. The heater hose where it hooks up to intake, was broke off so I had to replace that fitting. When I did, I filled with water and was going to go for a test drive. Started up and ran fine till I backed it out of the shop and gave it throttle it started cutting out and died. Now it sounds like it’s either got a bad misfire or it’s out of time. It idled and ran fine before. Now it won’t idle. Any help would be appreciated.

Any manifold vacuum port is good for the TH400 modulator. Factory the fitting was screwed in to the intake between carb and distributor.

That 1 minute of running w/o liquid in cooling system did not hurt the engine.
Yes the timing may very well have moved. 1st make sure the distributor is tight. If it loose pop the cap, find #1 spark plug wire, bump the engine until the rotor points at #1 spark plug wire tower on cap. Now check your timing marks on balancer and timing cover, hopefully they are very close. Use a socket and bar to line up marks. Check the distributor rotor, it turns clockwise, turn distributor so the rotor is just before, or counterclockwise to #1 spark plug wire tower. Lock the dist down install cap, it's should start.

If the distributor is tight then maybe the timing chain slipped. Anything is possible with unknown history. Can get into checking chain it the dist is tight later.

Ok that’s where I took a 3/8npt plug out and made a fitting for the vacuum line to hook there.

I will check that as soon as I get time to go back to the shop. I wish I had it at my house to work on right away. Thanks for the info. I will for sure let you know what I find out.
