Ok few things I have run into- what sensors will I need to keep in order to make this thing run good?

TC Lockup? I have a 700r4 and I am not even sure my TC lockup was hooked up. Is it the vaccumm switch on the firewall? Mine has 2 wires running into it and it looks like a vaccumm connection on the other side. Can I run this with my TBI engine?

What is the sender with 1 wire going to it next to my oil filter? What is the thing on the back of the block that looks like some sort of sender or switch?

My tbi system is off of a 91 Van and some of the things on the newer harness are different such as washer pump connection, wiper motor connection. I think I am going to use the whole harness for the 91, should I just splice in the old connections in place of the new?

Anyone clean up harnesses on here for decent price? I want to do it myself just so I can have it done my way, but I have limited wiring schematics for the tbi setup.

Thanks!

Also what are these pieces?

I cannot find anything that plugs into the 5 blade part in my harness.

Ok and one more for now: do aftermarket guages have VSS? I want to run all Autometer Pro Comp guages, what will I need?

Top Pic. Rectangle box is MAP sensor. Square box is timing control module.

2nd and 3rd pics: EGR solenoid.

4th pic also looks like a MAP sensor.

Dont know what the 5th pic is. Looks to me like some kind of a pump.

You should keep all the sensors to make it run good. If you leave any out you will need a chip programed to delete the sensor.

Sender on the back/top of the block is oil pressure switch..IIRC This can also be the oil pressure sender also
The only sensor with one wire near the oil filter that I know of is the 02 sensor. It is located on the bottom of the exuhast manifold near the oil filter.
If not the o2 . If it is a sender located on the block it may be the oil pressure sender.

On TBI the TC lockup is controled by the ECM. The vac switch is not used.

Man this wiring is going to be a little more work than I expected! :doah: I want to at least get rid of the egr and emissions stuff because I already pulled all of that. Plus I will have to get a chip burned anyway for the cam that is in the engine I will be using.

Looks like I will be doing more figuring today and less actual work :D . I am guessing I will have to just splice into the new harness.

Would a harness out of a TBI blazer be more compatible than this one out of a van?

I think it would be a lot better to have a harness out of a Blazer or truck. The TBI vans are quite a bit diferent from the trucks in the way they are wired/wire length ect.
Dont know if they make aftermarket spedos with VSS. But if you are getting a chip burned you can have the VSS deleted along with the EGR. But you really need to keep the rest of the sensors.
EGR acually is good to have too if you are interested in fuel economy. They help MPG on the highway. But it is not needed unless you have to pass smog.

I would have kept EGR if I hadnt already pulled all of the emissions stuff and sold it :doah: Isnt VSS pretty important to have? So what are the other sensors: IAC, CTS, Knock......?

I forgot you have a 700r4. You will need the VSS to make it lock up. Either that or go with a manual TC lock up swith kit.
other sensors are vital to thew operation of the FI system
IAC. sets idle speed by increasing or reducing ammount of air.
CTS. tells the ECM how hot or cold the engine is. Important for proper fuel mixture as engine warms up.
Knock sensor. Tells ECM when engine is pinging. ECM uses the Timing control module (IN top pic) to decresase timing to stop pinging. IIRC in later TBI systems there is no TCM. The ECM does its job. Mabe that is why you dont have the 5 blade connector on your harness from the van.

MAP sensor measures manifold vaccum. Tells the ECM how much load is on the engine Vital for proper air fuel mixture.

O2 sensor tells the ECM exactly what the air/fuel mixture is. Vital for proper A/F mixture.
