so im looking to get my cab swapped on this weekend and tapering my fenders wide enough to fit my rad and electric fans between, and i wondered if anyone had done it, and THEN installed headers... also did anyone do a taper and use an 03 style grille??




and...
when my truck was running (before i yanked it apart), when it ran at idle, it would pop, randomly from the exhaust... could that have been from no crossover and one muffler on the left and none on the right?

sounds to me like you may have burnt a valve......no back pressure....

what causes a burnt valve?? too much fire in the valve cover? lol....

If it is popping in the exhaust it is probably just raw fuel burning in the pipes. Do you have cats?

no cats, and only a muffler on one side (was well taken care of before i got it)...

Not enough back-pressure, generally. Also leaking manifolds (intake or exhaust).

A compression test and/or cylinder leakdown test will diagnose a burned valve.

gotcha... a machine shop i service quoted me 1200 for a long block valve covers to oil pan with my core... think ill go that route later...
