Cracked Differential

A 12 bolt axle would be a direct bolt in and help to give you some more strenght. I ran 38's on a 12 bolt in my old truck and got away with it. Its all in how you drive. A 14 bolt is the best answer but opens now issius with tires and rims. Sooner or later the 12 bolt will die with 38's but it would be the easiest swap in plus slightly stronger. I lost a rear axle on the freeway once. We rolled several times and the two people in the back were ejected. Just food for thought.

Under normal circumstances i would NEVER keep my comments to myself , so i took this chance to reply to what you said. Basicly because you have no idea, you know nothing, and you're broke.... do you think before you say stupid things?

1. This is my 1st truck Hence i know very little about 4wd systems about em. Gimme an F-body(camaro) and ill prolly do circles around you..... I would not come out here and act all tough, while in the same breath spout off about how you know DICK about "4WD SYSTEMS." And I would also suggest you watch what you say about F-body stuff around here... we have quite a few F-body guys out here...

2. I dont know my gears because i really dont care. I use it toi get me to work, and to plow. When i get to it, i get to it. Like when i get my new dif, of axle and i have it all apart and infront of me in a nice warm garage, not in my driveway in a foot of snow. REAL MEN WORK IN DRIVEWAYS... heated garages are for pussies! Anyway you cook this, driving on a failing 10 bolt is suicide - so HELP YOURSELF if you insist. Can't wait to see your entire axle, wheel, and brake drum come out in a customers parking lot as you are plowing... that would be great. Be sure to get a pic and post it for us.

3. i dont know the t-case because I dont know how to tell, yes i know thgey all look differant, but thats all i know. And if you dont care, why should we?

4.And yes im gonna run the rear end till i can afford something else. Its been like that since august, if takin it then mud god knows how many time in the fall ive been plowin since november it hasnt failed yet (it prolly will now that ive said that)And you ask yourself "why". because i have just about enough money to pay my bills and put gas in the beast for the next week or 2 let alone enought to afford another posi unit.See #2... if you dont have $100 for a junk yard 14BFF that will bolt right in with a conversion joint in the driveshaft and 8-lug 15" rims... sounds like you are just as broke as you claim. YET AGAIN, IF YOU DONT CARE, WHY SHOULD WE?

Just my .02 - not a good idea to come to a forum where you total all of 17 posts, and mouth off. ColoradoK5.com is a great place, but (I for one) have little to no tolerance for newbies with attitude. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

A 12 bolt is not significantly stronger than a 10 bolt. IMO I destroyed both of them. The 12 bolt is the one with the tiny pinion bearings that exploded on me and ruined my shorts that one day.

He just cracked it...I think he could safely run his 'spirit' till it breaks . /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

It's also not a bolt in either as the yoke is a smaller size than the 10 bolt IIRC...

I don't know but I wouldn't even go any bigger than 38s on my 14 bolt SF and this guy is runnin them on a 10 bolt...hell I would hesitate to put anything over 33s on a 10 bolt after my past experience.

Bought 14b/FF, just tryin to figure out how im gonna deal w/ the 8 lug rear 6 lug front situation. Hey maybe i could make my own hole in my 6 lug rim /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif.....j/k im prolly gonna buy the rims, theyre only 50$

i am glad you listened to reason. Make sure the gear ratio in the 14B matches the front or you are going to have to find out what the transfer case is really quick. (assuming you use the 4WD to plow snow)

good choice
the best light truck rear axle available

Looks like I didn't scare him away after all! /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Glad to see the 14BFF finally got thru to you. Just toss on the 8-lug rims, get the conversion joint for the driveshaft, and worry about the front 8-lug conversion later when money is better for you. Hope it all works out well.
