I went wheeling this weekend and someone got my panties in a bunch when they told me that craftsman was no longer honoring their warranty. I did some research and found out that they have not changed their warranty, just that the way they handle returns is being modified. I could always walk into any Sears store and hand them a tool that was worn out, usually a 3/8 ratchet. They would simply hand me a rebuilt one from under the counter or get a new one out of the tool cabinets.

Apparently the warranty is so short and simple that it is open to interpretation. There is nothing requiring them to simply hand you a new tool. There is also no stated time frame for replacement.

Here is a link to a good write up I found on the subject.

This has been discussed here before. I swapped a ratchet out a week or so ago with no problem.

:doah: I dumb. didn't realize this was a Repost.

was it discussed in the tool shed or elsewhere?

Repost or not, I had trouble replacing my Craftsman air chisel (or hammer), 1/2" air impact and die grinder after they quit on me last Thanksgiving... they needed the receipt though I bought them from that same store. I bought the darn tools like 2 years ago and I'm sure the receipt is all faded and illegible. They told me, no receipt, buy a new tool. For as much as I paid for the pricey stuff, I'd expect a bit more courtesy. I think their warranties are bogus. Screw 'em, I went to Harbor Freight instead, both companies have their tools made in China.

Anyways, those who had tools replaced with no questions asked are darn lucky.

hand tool warranty and air/power tool warranty is totally different

wrenches, sockets, pliers, screwdrivers, (hand tools) are lifetime no reciept. anything electrical, air powered, hydraulic etc is only 1 year with reciept--unless you bought the extended warranty offered on some tools. but you still need reciept.
