I can do bolts/nuts like that, and I know where each socket is on the rail. My problem is when putting them away. Especialy with simular sizes, 9/16-14, 1/2-13, etc. I've thought about engraving the sizes onto them. But I don't trust myselft to get them all the same looking. My ocd won't allow them to be mismatched like that.

Try Hanson socket trays. They are designed so that you can't put a smaller socket in the place of a bigger one. I do agree with the other guy though, I know by looking at the socket, which size it is.

Here is the top drawer in my last tool box, with all of my regular 3/8" and 1/2" drive sockets on Hanson socket trays.

I have heard that, but when offering the Snap-On guy 1/2 price (or even less than book list) they just laugh at me. I guess they don't want my money. Plus add to the fact I have to hunt down a driver (no sense trying to hagle online) makes buying other brands much easier.

That sounds like a pain in the ass. I highly prefer the non effort of the tool guy COMING TO ME. If I need it right away, I call him, and he comes as soon as possible. Other wise, I know he will be back next week. Running to the store would suck.

Well, if'n your a mechanic by trade, you wouldnt be buying anything other than the big names like snapon, because it is your livelyhood.

For the rest of us, talking a snapon guy to swing by your open garage door every week just so us backyard mechanics can swap out a bunch of broken tools or buy 50 bucks worth of 9/16" longwrench is unlikely.

Drooool. I wish i could keep my stuff in a drawer instead of teh stupid blow-mold case craftsman gives you. I travel with my tool case too much to put it in a drawer.

very nice box martin, and i agree that the hansen socket trays are great. if working on cars is your livelyhood then having the tool guys come to you is a life saver because there is no wasted time running to the store, but if your a backyard mechanic then your stuck with going to the store because we all know the tool guys are not going to stop by at your home/back alley garage

Yeah, I have a Craftsmen 4 drawer plastic box for my road box. I dislike it, but not as much as I dislike taking my expensive tools on the road.

Wow. Thats a lot of vicegrips. Maybe you should leave the drawer open so they feel less "private" and will be less likely to keep reproducing

There's the right tool for the job ... the wrong tool ... and whatever's in your hand at the time.

A screwdriver not only turns screws and opens paint cans, but acts as a prybar, and in a pinch, can be used as a mallet (if it has a rubber handle) or outright hammer (if the handle is thick enough plastic.)
