been listed for a longggggg time, probably because of the mods and asking price :eek1:

maybe its been up long enough for an interested buyer to beat him down. Not my kinda thing, and outta my price range if it was, but figured I'd share.

located in fredericksburg virginia

note - I did a search of the classifieds "complete vehicle" section, and didnt see this one. apologies if its a repost.

I like it alot. Thatd be fun to drive around the dunes. Def get alot of looks.

That's Chalet #0251, built 6/76, owned by one of the guys in our Yahoo Chalet owners' forum, but modded by the prior owner whose business is Pro-Trucks. He still uses a pic of this Chalet as an example: http://protrucks.us/trucks2.php

Now if you want to turn the thing back into stock, it appears someone in the same town of Fredericksburg is selling the original axles and transfer case out of it, but I don't know if it is the Pro-Trucks guy: http://fredericksburg.craigslist.org/pts/3236300537.html

I really like it, but would never pay that. I could have a full fiberglass body full-vert with cage, soft-top and paint for less.

Plus, that D44 front is too "huge" for me.

Having fun here updating this 2012 post with an update about the the latest seller. After the last sightings of it above in the Virginia area, it landed in California- widely spotted and posted there, and then was listed not long afterward for sale by a San Diego motorcycle shop starting at $85,000. I'd have to assume those guys were trying to capitalize one March 2021 Bring a Trailer $125 grand auction of the allegedly 'never-sold-from-the-1976-dealership' Chalet #0429 (It has a used car dealership logo plate on the back and a potential problem with its mileage figure, but that's a whole other story).

I saw at least 5 more price drops for #0251 here between mid-August 2021 to Feb 2022 last one was $57, 345. About a week back I surfed across photos of it in a Google image search at what looked like one of those classic car listings aggregator websites which appeared to have a new (as opposed to years out-of-date) listing of March 26th, but at an Illinois dealership. A check at that dealership's Facebook page prompted a salesman there to confirm it is in their current inventory, despite them not having their own specific page for it yet. So, I have both links below for the thing, 2nd one is just the basic dealer site address.

That bumper is horrible.
It has its entertainment value ... I guess. Ever since I first saw that conversion over at the 67-72Chev forum in 2008, I've always thought it was a bit off, hiding the turn signals too much.

Funny that our CK5 man "82355" said the 2012 Virginia seller's prices for mega lift conversions were high - I wonder what such reversal work to remove all of that would be while putting the original setup back on in basically 'factory showroom new' condition. All the top-end collector value in these is for factory-correct appearance. In my book (not accounting for a bit of inflation), the 2022 Barrett-Jackson auction of Chalet #0058 at $30 grand (+ $3 grand auction fee) pretty much set the collector value of these in 'close to showroom new' condition in concrete. Factor out the three anomaly last bidders for Chalet #0429 at the March 2021 BaT auction (who I assume had no idea what they were bidding on), everybody else bailed out at the $47,500 point. That technically sets the value of a 'pristine perfect preserved original' at that level.

So if a buyer of this #0251 wanted to get max collector value out of it, he'd be upside down in the purchase from having to remove all that lift stuff and put it back to factory stock. I'd say the reason why the CA seller couldn't unload it for 4½+ years is because he had it priced $30 grand too high (saie of the lift stuff/tires/wheels equal to cost of putting original running gear back on??).

Makes me wonder how the behind-the-scenes classic car dealer flipsaler network works. I've seen other Chalets and Casa Grandes bop around the country from one dealer to the next, with jacked up prices each time.
