So I'm cruising CL for parts for my truck and come across a '74 parts truck. Most the good stuff was gone but I could see a winch bumper sitting in the grass in the picture. Long story short, I picked up the bumper and the Warn mounted in it with original controls. I need to rebuild it, but it's in overall great shape. Anyone rebuilt one of these and have any pointers? It's got four "Ford style" solenoids that are all pretty corroded, and I'd like to change the lube as well.

Did I mention I picked the bumper and winch up for $100 OTD?:woot:

They are super easy to rebuild. Best thing to do is read through pirates article on them for the DIY'er. If you ever have any question, don't hesitiate to hit me up as I built millions of those winches when I worked for warn. If you goto an autoparts house you can get those "ford style" solenoids that are made for that winch for about $25 each. DO NOT use standard starter solenoids.

Corey, I just noticed your in southern oregon. I'm up in between salem and portland. Lemme get a hold of my sisters boyfriend who is a parts house junkie. He'll get me some info for you.

Corey, Warns part number for the solenoids are 2040. Any parts house should be able to cross reference that. If you have any issues gimme a yell.

Cool thanks. Just moved out from Michigan last year, and I'm still shocked by all the rust free rides out here. I'm in Medford, by the way.

Yep. Just called Warn and it looks like even if I bought parts from them I'd be out about $275 otd. Nice to get a deal for once!

So, pulled it apart today. Solenoids are all good, cable was only chewed up for about 15 feet, and other than some corrosion and cracked wires, I should be good.

Anyone know a good source (read:cheap but good) for a roller fairlead?
