Crane D60 cover?

I've heard good things about them. No personal experience.

I have Crane covers front and rear on mine, got both when they had a clearance type special on them.

I bet that site left a 1 off of that price, here's crane site. Those covers are usually in the $150 range.

If you can really get them for $75 I'd jump all over it.

hmmm, its looks better and better...anyone know how thick they r? i no they can take a beating, just kinda curious?

You can get DIY4X D60 covers for $90 (not the Razorback though :( ). I bet they are thicker and my preference would be for plate instead of cast (which tends to be more brittle).

You can not beat Ruff Stuff Specialties for pure brute strength period. He uses grade 50 Structural steel for his covers. It's stronger then cold rolled steel. His covers are 3/8 thick. I'm running a Ruff Stuff D60 cover and a Crane 14FF out back.

I almost made some arguments for and against certain covers, but here's the bottom line:

Pretty much every aftermarket cover made is stronger than the housing its attached to. You'll hear people talk about how much stronger one cover is vs. another (and certainly Crane and RuffStuff are among the most stout) but it doesn't matter. You'll bend axle tubes before you'll hurt any of those covers.

So, really, most of the covers come down to price and aesthetics.

I feel that the DIY4x "razorback" is ridiculous looking, I'm sure many people love it. I'm also sure that many people wouldn't consider the Crane covers for the $120 each I paid for them.

Seriously, as long as the cover isn't made of sheet metal or plastic, it all comes down to price and aesthetics.

that being said...

here are some for 65.00 shipped..good deal!

I personally have ruff stuff covers, and have bought stuff from kert too. Being they are vendors, support our site, out hobby and the great attitude and service I choose to use them.

I like the ability to weld mounts onto my covers as well.

4 vendors I love are diy4x, wfoconcepts, ruffstuff, and ballistic,

I really like the open line of communication and how easy it is to get custom part from kert too:waytogo::waytogo: The razor back cover is simply bad a$$ and one of those product that when you get it you are really happy to have shelled out the dough. The cast covers look like they came out of a jeep catalog, yes they do the job, but i dont like the look and as mentioned i needed to weld on mine.

wfo is the man on customer service and steering, i think ive bough 4-5 kits? and had others shop their too

ballistic rocks because they are real close, and the jig/weld together products are fun.

Agreed, but just because a company isn't a supporting vendor on this site doesn't mean they don't support the sport.

Not to say that chromoly is not weldable, but why and what would you weld to your diff cover? I've seen people weld their hydro assist rams to their diff covers, but IMO that's a bad idea. Its not a stable attachment point.

I've dealt with DIY4X, RuffStuff and Ballistic Fab. Ballistic Fab and RuffStuff were awesome, the only dealing I had with DIY4X was very so-so. Shipped the wrong product to the wrong place, then charged full price for a 2/3 finished product (I did ask for said 2/3 finished product but expected to be billed for 2/3's of the price).

Driveway tested indeed, and straight off of a Jeep no less

Seriously, I already said that just about every steel aftermarket cover is stronger than any stock housing.

ive been beating mine to death, ramming things, bashing into it, hitting the tie rod till it smiles, turning into ledges while bouncing around and flooring it.. killing it!..not a drip of fluid and bolts are tight, I can live with that. Considering the casting of that housing is what the carrier its self and load is held in place by..I think its fine and more than strong enough.

I have a RuffStuff cover on my 14BFF and there is no question that it is the strongest part of the axle. I would argue that a strong cover strengthens the housing, but yes, there comes a point where all the "beefyness" is overkill. I am planning on getting a flatback DIY4X cover with hydro assist mounting tabs for my D60. Why would the cover not be a "stable" place to mount the ram? Not trying argue, I just want to know if what I am planning is asking for trouble.

ya that is true about the strength. i would probably bend an axle tube before the covers cracked or bent. but thanks for the tip guys!

Stable place to mount a ram.....

Its not the stability of the cover, its the Hydraulic force generated by the ram. Whenever I talk to someone mounting a ram to a cover I suggest countersinking the bolts because even the tiniest gap around the bolts will allow the cover to move when the ram is involved. Countersunk (Not counterbored) bolts do not allow for any movement whatsoever.....

He says he's selling rock crusher.....

Not crane.....all cast.....for a limited time, the same price of a Ruffstuff, wheeeee!
