Most small blocks (all but the 400, AFAIK) use an internally balanced harmonic balancer and flywheel/flexplate. Big blocks and the small block 400 use externally balanced stuff. 383's, being based on a 400 crank, are externally balanced. You can't mix the two.
my truck came w/ a balancer with a almost half of it grooved -very diff from the one on my other 350-which is completely round -could someone have put a 400 crank into a 350? or is my 350block a 400 is that poss?

First off, does the engine vibrate/shake? If not then you either have a 400 engine and not a 350 OR you have a stroker 383 that was built. Pull the tranny inspection cover and look for a large weight welded to the flexplate/flywheel. There should be one there if it is a 383 stroker or a 400.
wow-there is a weight-i recently did my own bearings -and that crank looked awfully large -ok so how can i continue to id this thing-it has world heads on it /+an edlebrock tbi intake-and if i dont keep the idle in d high[800] it feels and sounds like it gonna stall.
