Crankshaft Differences?

Is there a difference, in the bolt holes and sizes on th 89 350 crank and the 97 vortec 350 crank. Pertaining to the pulleys that mount to the crank itself. Found a crank pulley for a e-clutch hydraullic pump on craigslist. Just wondering if anyone would know offhand

The pulleys don't bolt directly to the crank, they bolt to the harmonic balancer which in turn is a slip fit onto the crank snout. All SBC and BBC harmonic balancers that I've seen have the same pulley bolt pattern. One think to be aware of though is, I believe the L31 Vortec 350 balancers are shorter in length. This is to allow for the thickness of the reluctor ring. So if you were to install a L31 Vortec 350 harmonic balancer onto a crank without the reluctor ring behind it, your pulleys likely won't line up.
 
ok my mistake, so then is the harmonic balancer the same for the 97 vortec motor and the 89 motor? Are either one a 'L31'?
 
Here's the pics that I promised earlier, this is what I am talking about, these holes, do they line up with the 89 harmonic balancer? The guy I got it from on craigslist said that he pulled it off of a former DPW one ton chevy 97. That and I got it for $10 bucks, seems that he didn't know what it was for!

Yes it will bolt onto your harmonic balancer BUT assuming you're leaving your original serp pulley for your accessories and this is going to be an addition you'll need to grind/remove the piece that recesses into the balancer hole so that it doesn't interfere with the stock serp pulley.

I was going to use a similar pulley when I did my OBA but that's before I bought the Kilby bracket kit instead and used the factory pulley's and serp set-up.
 
I'm still in the planning/finding parts stage, but I think I am going to run the hydraulic pump from crankshaft pulley by belt, then run the A6 compressor from the other groove on the crankshaft pulley, the weldenator will be pigibacked with the a6 and turn on the same time the a6 is turned on. Good to know about that center section, I would have just bolted it on, then looked at it running all wobbley!
 
Why would you use an A6 compressor for OBA? Those compressors don't have a crankcase of oil like the York's do.
 
Actually I have a few friends that have ran the A6 for years without issues, they have actually outlived the Yorks. I need my compressor to 'tuck' down in the engine compartment since I will be adding three additional on board systems in total. OBA, weldenator, and an electric clutch hydraulic pump!
 
Let us know how the hydraulic pump works out.
I have wanted to use an engine mounted one in place of my PTO one for years, but never got around to it.
Any idea what pressure and volume yours will put out.

I went way oversize on my pump. I asked what the winch I was buying would need to be happy, and ordered accordingly.
Never measured it, but when I ordered it, mine was rated at 20GPH@2000PSI.
 
15gpm @ 3500psi for a tulsa r20 winch
Nice looking winch. 20K even makes mine look small. I'm guessing a wrecker or some other rear mounted setup.

I know it would complicate the plumbing, but you might consider the two speed motor if they offer it on that model.
It was an option on mine, but I wanted to keep it simple.
And unfortunately now, there is not enough clearance for one. A two speed is about an inch or so longer, and I have a brace right up against the back of mine.

If I remember right, mine is an 8.2CI Char-Lynn. And while it will pull fine, its slow on the windup after.

The option they offered was a 10.2/5.1, or something like that.
It would let me reel in faster, and give me lower line pressure for the same pull on low speed than the one I have now.

I am a big believer in keeping line pressures as low as possible.
 
This winch came from a semi wrecker. I actually watched this winch pick up on old buick from a ditch, lift if up back to the bridge 10 feet above where the vehicle was found. When I say pick up I mean it was rigged at all four corners and freely slung by this 1962 Mack wrecker. The winch was originally a direct drive which I converted to hydraulic over chain drive. Chain drive is 3:2 hydraulic motor is a charlyn 9.5 ci. I will mount the winch on a quick coupler front bumper with hydraullic outriggers. It will be used mostly at the tree farm putting 28" dia red oak trees up to the landings for us to process as firewood and to get the little (40 hp diesel) tractor unstuck
