I need some suggestions or a good smack to the forhead if i screwed up.

i pulled the old lift pump off the truck, and mangled the fuel line while i was at it. hey its not a repair unless you brake something else right? everything was going pretty well until i went to take out the fuel pump "shaft" the rod between the fuel pump lever and the camshaft, and the darned thing is stuck solid. cant wiggle it, cant turn it, and cant budge it. which means installing the new fuel pump is a lost cause.

I did put a breaker bar on the crank snout and rotate the engine over to see if the cam was pressing down on the rod and levering it in place, but there was no change.

im really hoping the fuel pump shaft isnt bent or wedged in there.

any thoughts???

ive got the jetta to drive, so its not a huge issue, but its rather annoying to not be able to start or move the truck.

? like one of the bolts that holds on the accessory brackets on the front of the engine???

ill take a look at that and see if its to blame, thanks.

theres a bolt hole right under the water pump where it connects to the block i believe. If that's the culprit you'll know it cause it usually has nothing bolted to it ;)

Assuming we are talkingabout the truck in your sign. There is a plate bolted to the block under thr fuel pump it keeps the rod from falling out. Remove the two bolts remove the rod coat with grease (it will hold the rod up) slide the rod back in. Then bolt the plate back on with a gasket. Install the new pump. Fix broken fuel line. Bleed system, drive away

EUREKA!!!

thanks all, i spent about 15 minutes looking around the water pump before i came back in and reread fuel pump. Once you point it out its quite obvious. Ill need to go get a gasket for that plate, but for now, im just going to make sure that rod isnt wedged or stuck in place. that at least will let me sleep better tonight.

Before you pull the plate, try bending a welding rod and hooking
under the pushrod to lift it. Thst's worked for me before.

popped the plate off (didnt see your post in time happyjohn) and the rod slid out freely, much to my releif. the major hiccup was trying to get a replacement gasket. took forever, so ill stuff a rag in the hole till sunday and hopefully the weather will be decent enough to get it puyt back together.
