I need some advice, check out that engine on eb*y and let me know what you think. I emailed the guy to ask him if it came with a chip for the computer but he said it would run fine on the stock computer, that just seams weird that an engine making 190hp from the factory can pump out 350hp with a cam and no tuning. have any of you guys bought an engine from them? they have great feed back so i dont think the company is full of crap.
thanks guys,
pat

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

A 383 will require a custom chip burn, larger TBI and injectors and probably an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

damn thanks for the info!! ok what about pheonix engine rebuilders? they have a few adds on eb*y and ive called them about a few motors but never made the jump into buying. i really aappreciate the fast reply too!! maybe you guys know of a good place to get a tbi crate motor, im dreaming of 350hp lol just let me know.

I'm making 400hp and 506 ft/tq from a 350 but i also have ALOT of money into this engine and i do have a 454 TBI with 95/hr injectors, high pressure fuel pump, and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. My engine is full roller (cam and rockers) with a set of AFR heads and a modified stock intake manifold.

Check with tbichips.com Brian has apparently been working with engine builders to provide "performance" engines with chips to match. Not sure where that's gotten, but worth checking into.

Two observations:

1. If you're going to buy a crate engine, your local GM dealer has a wide selection, and their small blocks are decently priced, have a decent warranty, and are usually ALL NEW, i.e. no reman parts. Read the small print and all that, of course, but you're likely to fare MUCH better from the General than you are from some random shop.

Also shop around -- back when I bought mine there was a 15-20% range from dealer to dealer on the same engine.

2. If 4X4High says something about motors, listen to him :deal:

He built my big block  and if he contradicts #1, so be it ;) The AZ crew may also know of a local place that's reputable -- I'm fortunate that Scott is local to me :D

thanks again guys, im almost debating on going TPI cause i can get a good deal on an lt1 from a camero with low miles. im not looking for something crazy im just shooting for 350hp. the guys i hang out with at a local 4wheel shop want to do an ls1 swap with me but thats a headache nomatter what you do because of all the small things you have to do to get it 100%. im going to keep reseaching and see what the best option is.
thanks guys!! merry christmas!!

Is it possible to build the same 383 chevy with good power and still smog in CA with all the listed mods? I have a 91 sub. that needs more power for towing, but smog concerns me. Thanks, Rusty.

just to give you guys a heads up, i was over at tbichips.com and i saw that brian is selling the motor out of the black magic project so i e-mailed him and im going to check it out after work tomorrow. he wants 2400 for throttlebody to oilpan motor which i think is a pretty good deal , the only thing ill have to change is the TB because it doesnt have the linkage hookup for the 700r4 kickdown cable but other than that its pretty much a bolt in engine. if this doesnt work out im going to get a blueprint engine 355 long block(385hp and 405ft/lb) and top it with either the holley 4bbl 900cfm tbi injection kit or a multiport injection kit for about the same price as the holley kit. i just want to have a good motor in my truck and be done with it, i think if i get brians motor or the blue print engine ill be happy with the performance and quality.

If Brian is using a 454 TBI unit on that engine there is no factory 454 TBI unit that is set up for a TV cable. You will have to modify the side linkage piece to accept the TV cable like i did. I also doubt that Holley has one either for that matter.

I would go with Xtreme-fi 50 mm throttle body. Over a 454 TB or Holley for a SBC.
Dont have to do any mods to it, bolt right on. I also recomend you either get their fuel pump or a Walbro 255lph intank pump. The stock pump wont feed that much HP.

I run Xtreme's 46mm TB on my mild 350 it works great.

well its official, im the new owner of the blackmagic prodject motor!! i went over there after work today to check it out, the motor is unbeleivable. it didnt bog when he mashed the gas and it pulled HARD all the way to 5800 rpms which i was surprised about. the truck will churp the tires at 75 lol anyway after talking to brian and being impressed by the quality/performance of the motor i told him i would take it off his hands. in case any of you guys are in the market for any fuel injection work, i can vouch that brian is a stand up guy and he takes good care of his customers. after i get the motor in he told me to bring it by and he will tweak the tune for me since im running duells and long tube headers instead of a y pipe and shortys. i cant wait to get this in my truck, it should be about a 160hp difference from what i got now.
thanks
pat

congrats man!!! i wanna see some pics of this! sounds like it will be sweet

yeah im definately going to get pics of the engine going in because i build the whole truck starting with a $1400 rust bucket and never took a picture while it was in the works.
