The motor in my truck is starting to get pretty bad and I was wondering what crate motors work well with TBI besides the GM replacement one because I want alittle more power than that. Thanks

Nothing really, unless you want to sink a bunch more money/time into your current TBI to get a little more power.

Either live with the fact that your TBI makes decent power and is reliable or pony up the $$$ for the setup that will make more power. My .02

As said, you'll need to start spending money on tuning if you go for anything more than a replacement TBI motor. A very mild TBI cam is ok but much more than that and you'll need to start modifying your ecu.
I think Pace Performance used to do TBI crate motors too.

There are a few builders on Ebay selling TBI crate engines that are mild build putting around 290 HP that should run on the stock chip.
This engine would work fine with the stock chip: TBI 350 Plus it is a HD so it should have 4 bolt mains
Or you can get a crate TBI 350 and put a mild cam and an Edelbrock performer TBI intake on it. The Edelbrock TBI cam and intake package work well on the stock chip. All the stock TBI will support with out modifications and chip tuning is around 280 HP
Once you get into bigger cams, better flowing heads, larger bore TB, ECT you are going to need some chip tuning.

I have a friend that replaced his TBI 350 motor with a GM crate Vortec motor (rated somewhere around 255 HP vs. 210 HP on the stock motor). All he did was put on the adaptor intake (Vortec heads to TBI), and he has shorty headers on it. Absolutely no other modifications to the TBI or ECU on the truck.

He had the truck for several years with the stock motor and it ran good, but the Vortec crate motor was noticably more powerful. I'm sure with a few minor ECU and throttle body tweaks it would have been even better.

Basically he had a dependable smooth running crate motor under warranty that was noticably stronger than stock.

Thanks for the info im in CT and if It would pass emissions I would just carb it but I dont know if it would pass.
