Crawlink5's 4BT swap is done

I've got a SBC and 4bt flywheel both loose may make a good side by side comparison. Crawlink5 is not lying I bet it wieghs 50+ lbs, its atleast twice as thick as a SBC

Crawlin, are you using the same clutch they used in the step vans? If not, you may want to research what clutch they used behind the 4bt's...:dunno:

Same exact clutch and PP - bought from Crest Fleet Supply in Cali. Also a part of Crest Chevrolet.

crestfleet.com - although they mostly do business over the phone.

Well, that's all of my ideas. I guess you just need to stop beating the $#!t outta your clutch! :p::haha::bow:

Here is the part number of the Centerforce clutch I think I'm going with:
DF024909

Big block application 12". Stage two street and strip.

I had the same thing happen to my clutch behind my 354CI TD perkins.
Mine lasted three years though and I was in a mud pit a few months before it fell appart and I could feel sand grinding at it until I started seing pieces of metal falling out under my truck.
:doah:
After that I put a new clutch and it seems to be taking it well.

imiceman44, what do you have the perkins in and how hard was it to do?

Hey crawlinkk5, I have been following your build pretty thoroughly and have also talked on the phone with Italisee(sp?) about the 4bt swap, and am still tryin to make up my mind. I have an m1008 and wanted to first consider the duramax swap because of uniqueness/coolness factor and because of the sheer power, but quickly found out there is absolutely no aftermarket as far as stand alone harnesses or computers are concerned so I am now focusing on a cummins swap. FIRST and foremost, what kind of power can be had from a 4bt? the power is the only deciding factor of me swapping in a 4bt. I am concerned about the lack of power because on occasion I plan on towing a 30ft 5th wheel and a ski boat since my dad drives a Tacoma(family outings and what not). What would your choice be between the 6bt and 4bt??? Everyone feel free to share your input and opinions.

Regards,
Remington

I had my perkins in my 76 K5.
I didn't do it and they did a bad job, I know now what I need to do and it's almost the same as the cummins swap, size is the same and I already have the mounts and I will put it in a crew cab.
:D

the 4bt can be cranked up significantly. I think around 300hp, 450 torque. Check around. If I was pulling a 30 ft, I'd go 6bt over anything else, period.

For your purposes I would befinately say 6bt, the tow rating on the 4bt is about 14K ltalessi and I have towed another m715 with his last m715 = 8 tires touching the ground and about 12K between the two trucks, it would do 65-70 but was by no means fun.....6bt is mean much more for the utility
