I thought so. It would open up alot of ways to attach alot of stuff.
Store more stuff up front. The under seat space is bigger than you would think and can hold a few small bags and is a great place for recovery gear and go-to tools. I have a small toolbag that fixes 75% of what happens in the world and it's usually stored at the front of the front seat of whatever I'm driving clipped in with a small cheeseball carabiner. The rear floorboards are also viable places to stash some stuff until your girls' legs are long enough to need the floor depth. Obviously it all has to be tied in, especially there but it's a great place to centralize the weight and keep it as low as possible while still being inside the truck.
I've seen some pretty nice underhood storage systems too and it's super easy to put a small toolbox/fluids box or whatever on an unused stock battery tray or bungee a bag down to a couple rings on an inner fender. Might as well make some use of that giant nose we cart around!
Consider mounting some track to the floor with the movable tiedown rings, those systems work great in our trailers for doing different stuff every time we go out. Also, distill what you carry to what you really need. You can take your truck apart with a couple dozen hand tools, don't carry the whole box.
A roof rack will probably come up but don't put stuff up there unless you absolutely have to and then it should be sleeping gear and camp chairs, NOT your spare tire, water and fuel cans, high lift jack and whatever the rest of the heaviest stuff you have might be. Pack light and low. I have a friend that rolled his K5 with a ammo can rack in the rear cargo area on top of the spare tire and after moving all his stuff down to the floorboards behind the front seats he figures he probably wouldn't have rolled if it was set up right to begin with. It's a big deal.

Ive got first aid under the passenger seat, no more room there... Several items in the center console (its full). I have been wanting to do a few things under the hood just like you said, mostly fluids etc. I havent found the right kind of container for under there though, I should probably look into it. Now that you mention it though, I may have just the thing to fit. Ill have to check...
I would do a roof rack right now but I cant fit it where I park if I do. If I didnt have 6" lift I could probably make it fit.
My goal is to get a few things into the rear panels that I need to make jacks and tools, stuff like you said, tools etc. Great ideas!
