What have you crew cab owners got as far as after market tunes in these things?

Other than the dash speakers, what other factory locations? Waaaaay waaaaaaay back in the day, 15+ years ago, I had an '85 K30 single cab srw. It had factory speakers right behind the seat on the B pillar. Do crew cabs have the same? With the '85, I was able to fit two small truck boxes with 8's behind the seat. What about the crews? Is there enough room behind the seat for the same style box? Could 10's be crammed back there? Any other options for subs?

yes you can add the rear speakers. basically the crew cab is just a longer reg cab. plenty of room for subs behind the seat.

There's not much room behind the rear bench seat. I fabbed up this fiberglass sub box a little while back. Eventually, I plan on doing some fiberglass corner speaker mounts on each side. I've got front kick panel speakers. Not sure how happy I am with them. They seem to get in the way of not just the parking brake, but your feet. I'll probably eventually just do front speakers in the dash and remove the kickpanel setup. I'm not going to have any speakers in the doors.

I don't like the way the kick panel setups look, and always thought they'd suck up more foot room than I wanted to give up, and you confirm that, so those are definitely out.

I don't mind mounting speakers in the doors. My plans were to run some kind of aftermarket speakers in the dash, off the head unit. Then 4 6.5"? 5.25"? component sets, or maybe 6x9's? in the doors off a 4 channel amp. Or perhaps component set in the front doors and 6x9's in the rears. And subs behind the seat. I would like to run 2 10's, but would go with 2-3 high quality 8's if the lack of space dictates.

Is the rear bench on the crews adjustable in any way? Does it slide forward/backward or tilt at all?

You need to be careful about putting speakers in the front doors. Don't recall if your truck has power windows or not, but if they do, the motor is in the forward lower part of the door, so if you mount a speaker of any depth, you'll need to do it in the middle bottom of the door. Problem with that is the floor sticks up right about the middle of the door and has very little clearance between the floor and the bottom part of the door when the door is closed. When I bought my truck, it had the speakers in the middle bottom part of the door and it hit the floor every time the door was closed.

Also, my rear seat didn't slide forward at all. Not sure if that was an option or not. If it was, mine didn't have it. It will fold forward though.

Here's my door before I cut it up and put the diamond plate aluminum in. You can see what the door looked like before and after I cut it. And, you can see where the power window motor sits.

And, here's what I ended up doing just if you were wondering.

Ooooo....good to know. My truck does have power windows/locks too. I'm sure I would have noticed that right away upon looking at it with my own two eyes, but thanks for the heads up. :waytogo:

What about the rear doors? Same clearance issues? Other than the dash, what are the factory speaker locations?

~edit~

Great pictures! 'Specially the one showing the window motor. Looks like I'm gonna have to get creative with speaker mounting.

The diamond plate looks great too. My door panels are in decent shape, so I think I'm just gonna keep them. But if for any reason I decide to do something different, I just might plagiarize the **** out of that idea. ;)

I've got 6x9s in the rear doors now. It's a tight fit also, but I don't have any issues with it. I'll eventually tear them out, put in the sound insulation and do the same treatment that I did to the front.
As far as the rear corners, the stock brackets housed something like 4x6s or such. Seems like I can find the brackets in every other truck in the pull-a-part. I've seen guys cut them out to fit 6x9s, but they're pretty ghetto. There's a guy on this forum that sells home made brackets to house 6x9s in the rear corners that look pretty sweet. I'll eventually do up fiberglass corners in the same style as my sub box. Eventually.

Although I haven't done it yet I plan on putting my speakers in the doors but I am going to mount them out far enough so they don't hit the power window motor. Haven't totally decided how to do this yet but thems the plans.

I have also thought about running a single high quality 5.25 in the dash to bring the soundstage together still not sure if it would help much or not.

So my plan is 6.5s in the doors in the front, 6x9s in the rear corners, I will just make my own enclosure. a single 10 behind the seat and possibly some sort of speakers actually in the dash somewhere.

Although I borrowed a friends burb once and he had kick panel enclosures and I thought the same thing I am going to be hitting my feet on those all the time. Never even noticed them.

If I have enough coin to drop on the kick panel enclosures I will go that route. Still might do the single dash speaker though

When I had my burb in college, I had 4 12s in the back and1 10" in the front center console. I wish I had pics. I built a custom wood console. When I bought the burb brand new in 1987, it came with a custom wood center console. I made a template of the sides and went from there. It had the 10" pointing down, about an inch from the carpet. There was plexiglass as a top. It was recessed a little so I could put crap in the console. Then a lid was on top. It had the amp on the back. There was 4 cupholders as well. I'm going to build another one soon.

I wanted these for the front, but they are indefinitely out of stock. im still waiting for progress on them. they lost the right side mold during the move, and still haven't started production. Really angering me but not much i can do. I already have the 6.5s but i may have to get some 3.5s for the dash while i wait (Stock 10ohms bring the suck)

thought i read all the posts but must have missed yours. Ive got them in the 83. Wouldnt work with my 6x9s without a spacer, and i still need to remake mine (plastic spacer failed)

This just in from captkaos (The silverado kickpanel vendor on 67-72chevytrucks not here) they are into the final stages of production and nearly ready! i may have to order 2 pairs for both the k5 (eventually) and the c10!

i have the factory ones like these in my crew.

i plan on installing one of those storage shelfs where the sun visors mount, and then putting some tweeters up there in the corners. but i havent fiigured out the rest yet. so i will be watchin this for ideas also. i dont want to kill all the space behind the seat for tunes as i, and most everybody else has done. i also wont cut up my perfect doors.
maybe a single 12" behind the seat, the factory boxes in he corners, tweets up above, and maybe some 5-1/4s under the dash infront of the shifters. i dunno.

I have a 6x9 in every door on my crew cab with a 4 channel amp mounted behind the back seat. I don't have power windows though.
