Crew Cab Stepside modfy and restore

Oh most certainly! Living in the Pacific North"Wet" they're pretty necessary. Even my K5 I kept functional inner fenders with very aggressively carved fenders. My "mission statement" with this build is to make it all the best I can. No corner cutting, no half-assed stuff, clean and good looking while being safe, functional and able. That means probably spending some extra time making the inners not look like they were butchered...

i cant wait to see this completed,...i play in the mud and inner fenders are a must also... keep up the good work and keep us posted...i can see this turning out looking really sweet,..surprised no one has thought about this before!

gotta see this one through...

horray for the preservation of sheetmetal :waytogo:

Any updates?

Nothing pic worthy...just finishing up the first bed-side. Should be starting the other side this weekend, and I'll post a few more pics up then. i've decided to use the steel floor from the fleetside box I have here rather than mess with the wood.

Pics coming soon!

Minor side track...with a pic though. This rig will be early 70's appearing, and will also be a GMC (other than the title anyways...)

Anyone that's tried to buy certain GMC specific items knows some stuff just isn't available aftermarket, and one of those items is the grille. I found a CK5er here selling a '74 GMC grille in good shape, so I bought it. It was uncracked, but very weathered...normal for California I'm gonna guess. So, I cleaned it up and scuffed it with some fine grit paper and repainted it as close to factory as I can tell from old brochures.

Hard to get a good pic of it...but this was the best of the bunch.

I'm sure it'd look a lot better in front of a satin black core support and rad...

Hopefully I can update this more often. It's hard to find energy after working 13-15 hour days though.

No aftermarket 73-79 GMC grilles out there that I've been able to find. The oldest OE GMC grill I've found available is 83-84. There aren't even repro grilles for the round headlight years. At least the Chevy stuff you can get repro grilles for the earlier years, but again for an OE grill you're looking at 83-84 being as far back as they go.

LMC does offer some nice custom grills, but they're not exactly cheap and I prefer a nice stock grill anyways.

To add to that, 80 has zero support for anything that looks like the original chrome grill. The aftermarket stuff is not the same design, and you cannot attach an emblem to it. I do have an 80 GMC non-chrome grill that I am hoping to fix up for Krusty.

Nice to see some progress Rene!
