Just to fit it on a shortbed frame you have to cut the corner of the cab out. There is a relatively recent thread on the chevy section at Pirate that has a picture of the shortbed standard cab to crewcab really shortbed swap.

A crew cab on a K5 is going to be a tight squeeze. Funny how that crew cab on Pirate actually used to be mine. Well at least the cab was mine, I sold it to the guy. I had a local friend use another one of my old 4-door cabs on a regular truck standard cab frame.
Theres a guy, Dennis, who goes to a local mud bog up near me every year, and he was also in Top Truck Challenge a few years back, and his, if I remember right, was on a K5 frame. You can see how the rear doors had to be trimmed for the fenderwells.

i'm diggin it to, just imagine, bobbed in rear or a shortened swb bed, the overhang on that 1 looks like he shortened a lwb bed....its a beautiful rig none the less....better yet a stepside w/steps removed or just a boxed flatbed w/just stepside fenders,eitherway, i like em(what i hope to have 1 day,)

I have a K-10 chevy shortbed i would do in a minute especially if I could find a 74 cab (smog exempt) damn cali emissions

The black one I posted pics of (which started out as the yellow cab) is a '78 2wd 4-door cab on an '82 regular cab longbed frame, with the longbed box just chopped down up front. He had to do a 3" body lift to clear the frame rails (or if you watch the guy on Pirate, he didnt want to do the body lift so he cut and modified the cab floor).
