Guys, looking for recommendations/past experiences for a company or individual y’all have used to ship a vehicle cross country. I have verbally committed to a 73 k5 in Oregon contingent on being able to get it back to NC for a reasonable price. I was hoping about $1000. I’ve never shipped a vehicle before so I know nothing. The truck doesn’t run but it does roll. Don’t necessarily need a winch on the trailer because I believe the seller could assist with loading and I would be there to help unload. Definitely don’t need an enclosed trailer or anything.

I didn’t post this in the hauling thread because I’m not really asking any of you if you can make the trip but if the thread needs to move, mods, I understand. However, if someone is interested, let me know.

Cross country in these times I would plan on the bill being double that. I don't like the vehicle shipping industry, it has been real hit or miss for me. Not running is going to make it harder too. Do a quick search, there has been some discussion lately about shipping both positive and negative.

It's a crap industry that always puts the person having the car delivered in a horrible spot.
But unless you're able to get it yourself, you're at their mercy. Also if a delivery date doesn't need to be set in stone, it's your only option.

cost me about $1000, 7-8 years ago from AZ to VA. I bet it's more now especially with fuel costs today.

Yea, it’ll cost more than $1k. More likely double if it was running. Probably need to add some on top of the $2k if it isn’t running. The big places pick up and drop off cars all across the country and so they sometimes move vehicles on the trailer around and so not running makes that hard. I drove mine up on top of the trailer cause the guy was too scared to hit the mustang that was already on the trailer.
I’d guess you’re looking at $2500 pretty easily especially coming that direction. There’s so many people fleeing the west coast, I had a friend get an almost free truck rental from Chicago back to CA since they can easily get a rental heading back out of there.

Non-running, I would expect $3500-4000 quotes from brokers on Uship.com. you may get lucky and find a smaller, direct ship option for around $2500-3000 if you can wait a bit and catch a break with a driver on a back haul.

Last summer I sold a crewcab to a guy in Illinois. He had a broker quote him $1500 to set the hook, that turned into $2500-3000 by the time they actually picked it up after a month of no contact. He decided to just pay the extra rather than find another shipping company.

Thanks for the info guys, yall are mostly correct. All the quotes I got were around 2k. Obviously never shipped a vehicle before so didn’t know, but that’s more than I want to spend on this, so ultimately had to pass on the rig. Mods, feel free to delete this thread.

For future searchers - I had my k5 shipped across country in an enclosed trailer via Intercity lines back in April. Was pricey (mostly because I wanted enclosed). Very happy with experience, and would do it again. Would not do it if vehicle was a project, would be waste of money.
