Went to bolt the stock cross member in from my '74 K5, that had a 203 t-case... Replacing with 205... No fit (big surprise)... Just looking for ideas that you guys have used in the past...

Whats the problem with "no fit" on your 'member?

What year is your 205 and what tranny are you mating it to?

The problem is the mounting holes don't line up, and the front driveshaft may or may not clear. The output of the front is a "flange" type so I guess I'll have to use a dc joint on it. (That'll be one of the first things to break I'm sure, the D60, locker and 44's will see to that... maybe the 5.13's will spare me some...)
Tranny is a TH400...

What year is the 205?

You realize there are 2 different variations of 205's to fit the 400 tranny? This is why I'm asking what year the 205 is.

yeah I'm sorry I forgot to answer that portion. I'm honestly not sure on the year unfortunately. The front output housing looks to be aluminum and I can't see the "seal/bearing" cap... I was told that's how you could tell the difference?

Can you get pics of the 205 and the adaptor on here to view?

Yeah. Not sure if I've got any one me, if not I will get some tonight when I go to the shop tonight.

Here's the best I got right now. If you can't see what you need I'll get some better pics tonight, and maybe I can get some numbers off of it.

From where I can see, it looks like you have the '84 and older 205 setup. This will bolt and sit right on your current '74 crossmember. You will only need to redrill 4 holes in the frame to mate the 'member to it. Its that simple.

Now if you have the '85 - '91 case, you would need to swap the 'member for the newer year and also redrill holes in the frame.

Doesn't matter, you're gonna redrill holes either way. I wouldn't change anything as far as using the stock type crossmember.

dont forget some crossmembers need 1 bushing slot hole egged out.

and yep thats a figure 8 style 205 short 32 spline input. ( needed for a doubler kit )

and yep redrill on the frame rail will be required for diffrent spacing of the tranny/tcase combo.

and if you took out a 203 for a th400 save the parts. this will make a doubler easy later on in your build that never ends.

I def saw the frame rail "adjustment" requirements... Also am saving the 203 for future use... I don't know that I will ever want to double up as I am mainly building a goo slinger, but you never just really know do ya!?!?!?!

Is there a reason why the moutning holes don't match up with the stock x-member? I've attahed some more pics here... I forgot to look for numbers because we were busy putting accessories on the motor that we're hoping to start on Sunday...

Exactly which mounting holes are you thinking about here? If its the ones on the frame rails, its simply the 400 is a little longer than the 350 tranny.

The holes I'm talking about are the ones on the T-case itself. I see that the frame rails are going to need new holes for the x-member, so that's no big deal. I'm just a little confused as to why the holes on the bottom of the 205 are closer together than the 203 was... This makes the stock member unusable without modification as it appears... FYI, didn't get to start the motor on sunday, we didn't have the fuel rail for the carb (the whole time we thought we had it sitting in the shop) and the flex fan I bought was not cc rotation like I am positive that I bought... O well patience i guess. I'm really ahead of the game I think...

This cross memeber even though out of a 74, is already "slotted." Even with the slots the 205 does not match up... It's really kinda got me scratching my head... The 205 center to center is 6" and the old x-member holes are almost 10" if I remember right... This is weird...

Shouldn't be weird.

Did you remove the rubber mounts between the 'member and adaptor? You can slide the rubber mount either way to compensate for the space of holes apart on the adaptor.

Can you take pics of your adaptor holes and the 'member holes with a tape or ruler beside them?

I will get pics this weekend when I head back down to the shop. David at Harmon Four Wheel Drive (a buddy of mine) said he had a cross member for a 205 to fit my K5 for $35... Doesn't seem like that bad of a deal right now if you ask me... lol...

And yes, the rubber mounts are removed. I've got the new mounts for the 205...
