getting ready to do my cross over high steer with a Y link set up and im thinking im going to have problems with the driver side between the drang link on the pitman arm and the link on the steering arm
has anyone move the steering box forward and what kind of project is that gonna be

I can't remember who it was on here that did it but moving the box forward has been done. I wouldn't think it would be too much of a pain only 1.5-2" or so.

What are you worried about becoming a problem?

I did it. Radiator gets in the way. Body mount gets in the way. Everything gets in the way. It is not a simple thing to do.

Given what I know now I would simply do crossover using a new steering arm and build a beefy ( .250 wall tube sleeved with .120 wall tube) tie rod.

moved mine forward and up here is a pic. With the box installed it set directly on the body mount. The angle required a u joint to be added to the steering shaft. It also hit the radiator so I trimmed it.

fyi true crossover has less road maners problems over y-link design .

prime example of this is ford twin ibeam has y-link and the aftermarket makes a conversion kit to get rid of it on lifted trucks .

when the driver side compresses and the passenger side drops the 2 joints on the driver side would hit drag link and tie rod

point made i guess ill go with a true cross over set up thanks

3/4 dana 44 and just to get rid of the stock drag link set up and do a cross over
There is not much flex on the driver side and steering and bump steer suck

I wouldn't go high steer on a 1/2 or 3/4 ton unless you need it and have good aftermarket knuckles.

cross over is straight forward as long as you got a flat top pass side knuckles and have it drilled/tapped/milled to take a arm .

i have flat top knuckles already with the arms and ready to go
if you think its a better idea to just do cross over thats the way ill go
your always helpful on this blog and seem to know a lot about what ever your talking about people like you is why this sight is a great source
thanks for your help on this

only reason I say non high steer is guys say on stock knuckles it adds a lot of stress / pressure and can brake . even on stock dana 60 knuckles it can happen .

my 1 truck STUBBY has a pair of dednbair/reid knuckles just for this .

Sorry been traveling past few days. I agree with sweetk30, just go with the crossover. You can always just beef up your tierod if you're worried about it getting banged up.
