I am going from 700r4 w/NP208 to the 465 with same 208 transfer case. does any body know if the stock crossmember will still bolt in the same place or will I need to modify it.

Thanks

You can't go to a 465 with 208 combo from 700R4-208 and reuse the 208 without replacing the input gear. The 208 has a 27 spline input gear. The 465 is either 10 spline or 32 spline.(32 spline was the factory setup with a 208 behind a 465) As for the crossmember, there are a bunch of different crossmembers with a bunch of different setups, so I can't say on that. I replaced a 700R4 with a 465 and used the same frame mounting holes
I couldn't reuse the crossmember, it wouldn't have bolted to the 465 I had. However my 1989 Suburban had a different adapter on the 465 that was the same as the 700R4 I had replaced once before, so there I could have used the crossmember.

After about '85, there were only two crossmembers used. (double hump and single hump as I call them. Previous there was a flat one with the "tall" adapter) The length of the adapter/transmission is what governs where it bolts in.

My frame was an '81, had to drill the frame for an early 465/205 combo. After '85 the adapter length changed 465/205 and again I have to redrill.

Basically, all you need to do is measure the overall length of the tranny to the mounting point for the adapter.

mounting point from bellhousing to adapter mounting point on any 32 spline 465 will be the same as the 700R4. I've measured and checked that before. When I replaced the 700R4 with 465 the flat(84) crossmember bolted right to the 700R4 holes in the frame. When I replaced the 89 "single hump" crossmember with the flat one I had to drill new holes. Actually I just slotted the crossmember holes instead of trying to drill new holes in the frame from underneath the rig.

A short(85+) 465 to 208 adapter should bolt in place of a 700R4. I have not done it so I'm only like 90% on that one.

i am replacing the 208 input gear for the 32 spline I ihave the adapter to mount the long 32 spline output 465 to the 208 I have not actually measured it yet but I am pretty sure it will be the same length as the 700r4 to 208 that was in there. I figured since it was the same length the crossmember should go back in with out any trouble. if not which one do I need.

thanks
