Alright, so I have reached a pivotal point in my build. I feel as though the information I have and what I would like answered would benefit others, since I have spent numerous hours trying to decipher through and find out which crossmember works for the nv4500 swap. I personally have a '77 k10 short bed frame going together. I have began my nv4500 conversion, OEM hydraulic bellhousing, and np208 transfer case. The frame originally had a th350 crossmember, and I have seen others fabricate some sort of spacer/mount to make the "flat" th350 crossmember work. However I do not have any of the proper equipment nor know-how to make that happen, so I am trying to figure out what will work to use the nv4500's rubber block mount with a factory transmission crossmember from another truck. Here's my understanding:
-The 700r4 has the same footprint as an Nv4500, therefore, a 700r4 crossmember should work. However, through my research, there appears to be two styles, "Double Hump" or "W" and another style of a double hump crossmember, making an S shape. I read on a 4wheeler magazine article of a guy who swapped a nv4500 crossmember into his m1008, and he used an s style crossmember, which is from a 85-87 700r4 truck.
-The Sm465 crossmember ALSO has the same footprint as the nv4500, and I believe the same mount, so doesn't this mean that this crossmember can be used?
If anyone has any experience behind this swap or if they can confirm the information I have, it would be greatly appreciated.

I can't answer your question but you're talking about crossmembers in terms of transmissions when it's more about year models. So when you generically say "465 crossmember" you could be talking about at least 2 styles (up to '84 and '85+).

I literally just bolted my NV4500 in my pickup the other day. My pickup is an 85' K20 that was factory equipped with the 700r4, my factory crossmember worked perfectly. I used a 700r4 transmission mount and it bolted right up also. My truck has the "W" crossmember. The only thing I had to mess with at all was the "spacers" on the bolts that spaced the crossmember about 1/2" below the frame. Removing the spacers and getting shorter bolts to bolt the crossmember directly to the frame made my driveline angles factory perfect, or close enough that I can't tell the difference. I'll try to post pictures tomorrow if I get a chance.

I had two of those cross members and gave both away. Now I need one big time.

Anyone got one?

easy the 4500 needs the 85-up style crossmember NOT the older flat style .

Hmm...I'm in the middle of doing this swap on my '86 M1009, and it has the flat style crossmember. Were the CUCV trucks different? It looks like it's going to be a small headache getting the older style crossmember to work. :dunno:

yes, they stuck with the pre-85 stuff on the CUCV's. I'm sure for standardization, and the contract was big enough to make it worth it for GM to keep making those parts.

just make a bolt on or even weld it on spacer to take up the extra gap . that's what I am going to do on my 1 truck .
