Swapping out a th350/203 combo for a th400/250 slip yoke.Donor truck a 81' k30 long bed.going in, not for sure of year,1/2 ton frame. My question is,will the crossmembers holes in the 1/2 ton frame line up? Just looking and taking quick measurements I believe i'll have to redrill frame.Yall help me out and shed some light on it for me.

the front hole lines up and the back hole needs redrilled... i think....

maybe its the other way around but youre gonna do some drilling.

you will not be able to use the 1 ton cross member also. as its diffrent than the 1/2 & 3/4 ton unit with more drop in it.

Was it you who posted pics up of various crossmembers?

I thought the one tons mounted the crossmember on top of the lower frame rails, instead of under, which made up the difference in frame height between the 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks?

Or are they all mounted to the underside of the frame? Any difference when they went to the "humped" crossmembers?

there is 1 3/4 - 2 " diffrence in frame hight on 1 ton to the 1/2 - 3/4 ton frames. so mounting on the top side wont give you much.

SweetK30 is right. I tried this once. You either need a spacer, or use a cross member out of a 1/2-3/4T. I have a few kicking around if needed.

True that. What's the bent lip on the crossmembers, 1" from the surface that actually sits against the frame, roughly? Why the two sets of holes on either side though?

Anyways, do we have pics of one ton crossmembers against a 1/2 or 3/4? I'm curious to see the difference side by side. Somewhere I should have a 1 ton crossmember, but no clue where it is. Wonder if its the mounting, or the raised portion, or both?

Were the one tons ALL one style (single or double humped) or did they use the two styles as well?

I could get a pic. The only 1 Ton I have is a double hump though and the 3/4T is the right hump style. I have used a 1 ton in a 3/4T frame but you definitely need a spacer. I don't remember the difference but it's a good 1 and 1/2"

yeah the short one is the 1 ton which mounts inside the rails and the tall one mounts under the rails for 1/2 and 3/4 frames.
the W style was to be able to use the same crossmember for both but under over was the only difference right?

as was said you have to redrill the frame.. really aint that big of a deal. i got a military k5 that had a 400... switched to a th350 then back to the 400.

No,I wasn't the one with the pics. Both crossmembers bolted up from bottom of the frame.I didn't remember that the frames on a one ton are thicker until it was brought up earlier.I really need to get off my rear and get the horse[engine] ready then worry about the wagon[drivetrain].I knew that the 400/205 was going to be longer than the 350/203.Just wanted to ask the question before I get ahead of myself. Thanks for the info fellas.BUILD IT DON'T BUY IT.
