guys i know this has been discussed many times. but can I get a little more schooling. I dont have tons of money. But I was going to run crossover by ord. I need a new tie rod so i dont know what i am going to do about that, maybe dom threaded/knuckles reamed for it on top. now a good time to go hydro? (my ruck has been broken down in my garage for awhile building tons.) all i would need is lines and a tapped box and a cylinder? suggestions?

1/4" NPT tap, 7/16 drill bit, $50 ram from surpluscenter.com, a couple of their $5 lines, some adapters, random steel bits for brackets, some fab skills, a couple 3/4" bolts... That ought to be all you need.

I made my own tie rod for $50 using a friends 53/64 drill bit and 7/8-18 tap. Used 1.5" 3/8 wall DOM tubing that I got from the local steel yard. I could have done it cheaper and gone with 1/4 wall like ORD and all them, but I wanted some beef. :D If you don't have a tap you can borrow, they sell them on ebay, with the drill bit you need. You gotta have a REAL drill to run that one though.

you think i would need hydro right away? thought about going ahead and apping the box while its off and doing ita little down the road.

you might as well tap the box while you have it off for the swap (4wd to 2wd) at least....if you have 130 extra bucks then go ahead and do the assist now unless you plan on going to hysteer in the near future.....in that case just do it then.....lemme know if you need a parts list....and by the way the $50 ram is now out of stock, you must use the $86 one....still pretty cheap tho....

I bought an end cap from JKWoffroad and tapped my top cap. tapping the box itself requires you tear it down so you don't get shavings in it. swapping the caps is really easy and you can swap them back if you need to turn in your box for a core.

go at least 3/8" NPT no matter what way you go. 1/4" is to small.

if you don't have the right drill bits or taps then thats either an excuse to buy more tools or you can usually get a hole drilled and tapped for a beer.

these hoses.

with these fittings to hook the hoses to the box and the ram.

this cap and tap your top cap.

a ram that would work unless you want to go smaller.
