crossover or locker " update. installing the crossover "

Well today I was searching out a squealing problem and it ended up being the brakes. After I finished installing the brakes I decided what the heck, I have the wheels off, might as well install my crossover.

So first I went ahead and removed the 4wd steering box. pretty simple task. disconnected the hoses and then unbolted it from the frame. I do already have an Ord bolt in steering brace so that is covered. I did find about a 1/2" crack in the frame near one of the mounting holes. I drill a small hole at each end then welded them and the crack. I guess if I get another crack, I will have to add the Ord weld in brace.
I then installed the 2wd steering box, hooked up the lines. I will wait to hook up the steering shaft, for when I align everyhting up. The 2wd box still had the stock pitman arm on it, so I went to remove it and it just wouldnt budge. No problem, broke out my grinder and put a cutoff wheel on it. 2 minutes later and the pitman arm was removed :D. Installed the pitman arm that came with the Sky kit. I then proceeded to go and install the Steering arm and came to a stop. It was time for hanging out with my son. I will be back at it tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.

Got up early this morning to finish my crossover install which started with me installing the steering arm on the passenger side knuckle. That went textbook. I did find out that my old calipers are sticking pretty bad after the new brake pad install, will have to get new ones. Anyways, after installing the arm, I went ahead and installed the draglink. Then it all turn into a big pain in arse.adjust both ends, adjusting how many times I can turn the steering wheel each way, just a long process. I filled the steering pump and turned the wheel back and forth about 20 times getting all the air out. Of course the wheels were off the ground which made it easier. I went for a test drive and about freaked out. the steering felt like I could turn on a dime while moving but sitting still I could barely turn the wheel, felt like lots of binding. I noticed I installed the draglink in the hole closest to the knuckle. I went ahead and changed it to the outer hole and readjusted the draglink to fit. Now I was able to turn the steering wheel alot better sitting still. I still had a little binding which will most likely clean up with some adjustment. The steering wasnt as quick which was betta. there is a big differance in the steering, something you definately need to get used to. I will do some more testing and adjusting after I replace my sticking calipers in in the next couple days.

nice job
can we get some pictures of the crossover and maybe some of your upcoming brake job?
thanks

Very rude of me to not take pics of the install, normally I take a few, just didnt this time. Anyways, I have daily driven the crossover and so far so good. It does feel good. I have to tweek the steering box to get rid of some play in it. there is still plenty of adjustment on the screw and nut. I do get a death wobble whenever I hit a huge pothole, depending how fast I am going, usually around 30. It goes away pretty quick though. I do love the turning radius now, kinda can turn on a dime.

so thumbs up :waytogo:
