Iv been thinking about doing crossover steering on my d44 but sure if its worth any one done this?? and can give advice and maybe some pros and cons?

Only CON is the time and cost.

PRO's are YOU CAN ACTUALLY STEER ON THE TRAIL. If you have a lift, you can turn right as tight as you can turn left. Most folks will know what I am talking about. If you have wheeled the stock steering and then go to crossover you will wonder how you lived without it.

50$ for a knuckle
around75$ for tie rod ends
traded for a 2wd steering box
everything else i made myself(steering arm, drag link, studs for arm)
i think i might have to get a dropped pitman arm for better angle(another 50$)

I cant wait to make the change... You will gain a lot of droop on the drivers side by eliminating the stock draglink set up!!!

I was going to do this, but the next major change planned on my truck is a d60. then my crossover won't work. never seen a conversion for the d60

your right. I don't understand the jeep thing!

I just ordered about $5900.00 worth of parts for my 73 blazer. Cross over steering was one component. It cost me $535 from oru. Its completly bolt on. Oh yeah you have to change your steering box also.

doonjumper, fill out your bio. plus we all want to know how you spent the rest of that $5900! 500 bones for complete bolt on, huh. did that include the knuckles too. i'm wondering why they can't make a pitman arm that will work with the 4x4 box?

It was 535 cause one of the other components I bought was a D60.I just checked and for 10 bolt and 44 it's about $850. The D60 doesn't need a knuckle but the 10 bolt and 44 do and that kit comes with knuckle. I'll go fill out my bios.

doonjumper dont leave us like that you still have about $5,400 to explane to us

was the bolt pretty easy?? i agree why can you buy a pitman arm that would wokr with a 4wd anyway i got a gear box off a old 2wd truck

$850!!! ouch. there's gotta be a cheeper way. now if i could get a dana 60 for $350 to break even on the $850 that would be cool. yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt

I just ordered the parts today. The guy at oru said it would be a complete bolt up. I bought a D60 and 14 bolt 11 months ago out of an 80 1 Ton. The other things I ordered were 4.88 gears and all components, arb for the front detroit for the rear, rancho 9000 dual in cab system, 16x35x16.5 boggers, 16.5 weld S/S weld wheels, agr gear box, power steering pump, Front truss, rock stomper link. Here's the kicker I have been sav'n to buy all this and my motor blew two days ago. The wife said, "I want a stroker" and I of coarse played her like a violin by say'n no I v'e already spent too much I'll just buy a crate engine for $1100. She said no get the stroker. If I had said ok right from the first I would have been done for.

your wife said "i want a stroker"??? cool chick, but isn't that your line.LOL! sounds like you're building a sweet rig and i secretly hate you for it. oops, i mean cool sounds neat-o. ok, my humor sucks, its' past my bedtime.

can you ask your wife if you can buy me one =-) ill have ot check into teh bolt on stuff i also heard you need to build a new crossmember is this true?

Bandit

I asked the guy at oru and he said I didn't need a different cross-member, cause I had heard the same thing. In fact it was in that article up above. But he insisted I didn't need one. Here's what you gotta do: when your wifes asleep just whisper whatever it is that you want in her ear for a couple of months and youd be supprised what happens

Funny you should say that cause that's exactly what I told her when she said that,"Hey thats my line" No kidding!

ORU has a crossover steering kit for a D60..

" Ah.. Hong Kong, home of shiny green suit!"

Yes ORU makes one for D60. I have to ammend the price though. They called me today and said that they quoted me the price without the steering block which is the one thier web page said that I needed. They said that thier web page was wrong and I do need the steering block so the price is $625. Oh well, what can you do? He still insists that The link will not hit the cross member. I've heard otherwise.
