Can you do it? Or will it hit the crossmember/oil pan/etc?

Martin

I'm sure it could be done but you'd likely end up with very little uptravel.

With our high clearance engine crossmember and a special pitman arm we typically consider 2" of lift to be the minimum.

Here is a crappy pic of my crossover. Im running a 4 leaf 52" spring pack that is completely flat, I figure around 2-3" of lift over stock. You can barely see but the drag link rubs the stock engine crossmember.

Ill have the ord crossmember soon but even then there wont be a lot of room for uptravel.

When my leafs are toward the end of their service life I have about 2" of lift if your axle is in the stock location I don't think you could do it at all mine does rub the engine xmember

Hmmm, i'd like to see if this could work with little to no lift as well. Martin, don't you have zero rates i the front of yours? maybe that and a different cross member? :dunno: how much up travel does stock suspension have anyways? LOL! maybe some bump stops too

anyways, sure would be nice to have cross over on my k5 which is most likely only going to have a zero rate for lift in the neer and distant futur

I have a set of three leaf front springs, and a zero rate on the front of my Suburban. It also has the stock crossmember. I need to replace a bunch of stuff in the steering, so I figured why not just do crossover? I already have a external hub Dana 44 from a '75 K20 in the front, and ORD has their crossover kits on sale currently.

I think the biggest limiting factor is leaf spring to pitman arm clearance.
So zero-rates don't make any difference.

And don't use the popular superlift 1104 pitman arm if you have a low lift,
since that one has a pretty big drop, decreasing the clearance even further.

I have the 1104 pitman arm and it is also pretty close to the spring. Wish I had some decent pictures but I dont.

We have our "high clearance" pitman arm that just barely squeaks under the frame (it's almost flat), we use that pitman arm for 3" of lift and less (and we often use it on 88 and up trucks). We would substitute that, same cost.

As mentioned the zero rate doesn't help a ton because it doesn't make pitman arm to spring clearance any better. We can certainly supply you with parts to do it and I'm confident it will work at static ride height, you may need to add bumpstops to keep things from hitting. You will absolutely need our engine crossmember.

Dragging up an old thread..

Is the main intereference the engine crossmember, and springs?
I am moving the engine and crossmember back 5-6 inches to fit a Willys body, and have a couple ideas on lift.
If the 37 tire will clear with stock uptravel, it won't get a lift, but will get some 52 springs on the front for flex... LCOG
If I do add a lift it won't be anymore than 4 in.
So can I do a crossover at stock height, with the engine crossmember not being a factor?

thanks.. still studying and reading!! :)

52" springs in the front will give you 3-5" of lift weather you want it or not :)
So, I think it would work just fine.
With the crossmember moved back, you could probably use a straight drag link btw.
And you could probably use the high clearance pitman arm that Chris spoke of earlier.

If I run the 52 at stock height I'll be using shackle slider boxes frenched in the frame rails, so no, it won't raise it any..
On the front the spring mount is outside the frame so it can be anywhere.
Keep in mind none of the mounts for the K5 body will be on the frame... :waytogo:

True you're going to cut some of the lift out but I'd be surprised if it was still dead level no lift.

Guess we'll see... moving both ends of the spring up 4 inches from stock should put it right back to no 52 gains..
More or less...
Most people are running extended shackles with the 52's, so that adds a tad anyhow over a stocker.

I need to sit down with a straight edge across the springs and see where it is for the draglink.

I really didn't read the whole thread and I might be wrong but isn't FRIZZLEFRY running crossover on that spring under step side of his?
