Just a short question about the CC:

I have a complete & good harness but I have never driven a K5/C/K truck with a working cruise control

=> is the CC actually good (when it is in working condition) or is it poorly designed/tends to cause problems?

(btw: does anyone here have a working cc setup :wink1: ?)

Thanks and greetings

Flo

What year is your truck? This may narrow down some of your questions.

For what it's worth, when I was diagnosing some problems with my truck when I first got it, I disconnected the cruise control cable that goes to the throttle body so I could rule out any issues there. I have not connected it back up and don't really miss it.

Mine works on my 91. I use it quite often because I have a 25 mile trip to and from work. Works pretty good. Up big hills it will lose speed but it's hard to move 35" tires. I just accelerate enough to get it to kick down a gear and then let back off the gas.

I'm not a real big fan of CC in the trucks, especially in areas with hills and such. I made a trip one in the '94 with the cruise on going to my destination, and didn't use it returning, and the truck used more fuel GOING there, than returning, and i was loaded up with stuff in the bed too.

What i have seen with these, is that the computer, or whatever in your truck is controlling the speed, is doing whatever it takes to keep the vehicle at the set speed, even if it means dropping too many gears for the speed. I personally am not a big fan of pulling 5000 rpms on a hill for any length of time, i would personally just run the throttle with my foot and when the motor starts to bog and the truck starts to slow, let it, for a bit, reasonably, till it's TIME for a gear change to keep the engine RPM's in a comfortable range.

The cruise controls seem to be too touchy for the gear change, too soon to maintain that speed within 2 mph of the setting, when climbing hills, it is normal for the most part for alot of vehicles to slow somewhat.

just my opinion :D

i'm old... just could never get used to cruise control... do a lot of intown driving too.. one of the first things i did to my 87, ditched it...

doesnt work in my 73 or 76 dont really mind. I use my 00 jeep grand cherokee for any kind of long drive neways

Use mine all the time. Although there were a few times when I would set it, the cruise would just floor the gas pedal and would keep going until I shut it off. Hasn't ever done it again though. Don't know what that was about.

all depends on the length of drives you take and how much work vs. your need for it comes into play.
My DD has it, on long drives (hours) I might use it. The blazer had it until new gauges went in, then I couldn't wait to take it out and lose some wires, valves, etc. As simple as possible with my toy, I don't mind not having CC. Sorry, that was more of an option, never used it in square bodies.
