I have an 84 K5 with a computer controlled Q-jet. Swaped out...ok...broke the 700r4 in 1/2 and now have a t-350 in its place. Ever since the tranny swap, I run super rich and have a flat spot. The old tranny had sensors that were plugged in and the new one does not. COuld that be the cause of my problem?

Would a non computer controled carb fix the problem? If so, whats the best one to put on an 84 K5. I am in an area where I am not required to pass smog so whats my best choice? I drive it in town, but am building it for an off road rig so it needs to runs strong and be reliable off road too.

Also, if I got rid of the computer controled carb, would that disable my cruise control? It has not worked since the swap, but neither does my speedometer, so I dont know if the cruise is based off the speedo, or the tranny sensor, or both.

Please advise as I seem to be getting mixed answers form different people and dont know what to think.

Any 49 state 80's Quadrajet with the bowl vent up to 1985 should be fine . And any pre computer HEI should be fine for ignition .

The cruise control doesn't work because its tied into the wiring to the 700r4 , a wire dead ends now . You need to get a wiring diagram for that and figure out which wires to hook together to complete the circuit back .

Cruise is based off of the speedometer. Fix your speedometer your cruise should work.

Computer controlled carb will run full rich if disconnected, but that IS assuming you have one. California trucks are the only ones that got the actual CCC system. If you don't have CCC, then you probably don't need a new distributor.

:doah: I was thinking the lockup wiring was part of that :doah: It only shares the brake switch with the cruise control :doah:

Brain clouded by putting my 700r4 into a 75 :wink1:

Yeah I remember now , the cruise box on the 80's gets fed by VSS on the speedo , even though the speedo was mechanical , it converts that to an electrical signal .
