I have a CS130 alternator on my turbo 6.2L in the K5. I have a 91 instrument cluster in it which is equipped with an alternator idiot light. I have 12V on one side of the bulb, and the other side travels down to pin L on the alternator. Grounding the pin right at the alternator turns the light on. I have the big post on the alternator run to my starter, and the big pin in the connector run to my firewall junction block. Both wires read battery voltage when the truck is not running.

The problem is that the alternator is not charging, but it is also not turning on the idiot light in the instrument cluster either. I took the alternator to a local parts store and it seemed to work for them.

Any suggestions of what might be up? The alternator did work before, this is a recently developed problem.

The CS130 in my 91 has the heavy + wire go straight to the battery, and not the starter, although I fail to see how this could be your issue.

FYI, my alt light only turns on with the ignition and when I'm turning it over.

Call this guy; he knows his ****:

I spoke with him and will be upgrading to his CS144 200amp. He's like an alternator wizard.

I also spoke to the guys at mean green, MSD, Powermaster, and Mark Hamilton at M.A.D Electronics (who is like a straight-up engineer, he'll give you a lesson and make you a bitch if you call and ask him ab alternators. The end of our conversation went like this: "I'm not interested in your 91 Blazer, *click", but only after I told him I had to split.

Mark is a good guy, but you need to order something from him to get support.
