Looking at replacing the alternator in my 90 gmc jimmy. Right now it has a cs130 but looking at a cs130d as it seems more modern and better amperage at a lower speed.

Has anyone done the swap? I assume the case is the same size so it just comes down to wiring. I already ran a 6 gauge wire from the alt stud to a 150 amp blue sea braker then to the battery. Just seeing what I need to adapt.

Yes I did this recently. I had a 105 amp 12SI on my burb, it couldn't keep up with my electric loads and charge the battery at low speeds. Which unless I am traveling is all I do in town.
I called @500$k5 and he set my up with "bolt" in. Can do 1 wire or 3 wire. I went 3 wire. Only thing the battery + post on alt ends up very close to cylinder head. Does much better at low speeds. I have 2 a/c fans, trans cooler fan, condenser fan, electric fuel pump, and 2 batteries to charge.

Weird. That has the same connector as the CS130. That's what people use to go from SI to CS. OP is starting with CS.

I went from a 12si to a CS130 to finally an AD244. I didn’t see the gain of putting the CS130D in after the CS130. Here is a video I did about sizes, wire plugs and such:

I am very satisfied with the AD244.

These are a couple of pics of the alt I used. Right now I can't tell you exactly what it is.
The box is 12si I replaced

It's weird that most of the adapters out there allow you to swap in a CS130 in place of your CS130D. Why is that more popular? The "D" versions are rare? Anyway, these guys seem to have the adapter you need: https://www.qualitypowerauto.com/catalog.php?item=81

I was noticing that too. From what I read I thought the cs130d was a better alt. I’m new to Chevy alts as I primary own fords. Maybe it’s not as good as they claim and I should just buy a solid 100 amp cs130?

Yes, I would not take out a CS130, and replace it with a 130D. Not enough of an upgrade, to warrant the changes needed.

We bumped up to a cs144. Wired using the adapter pigtail that has been posted and ran 4 ga. power and ground wires. I did have to change the front of the case when I went from V belt to the serpentine setup. Next time around , I’d look into the AD244.

Bumping this, have friends ‘87 V20 Suburban. Pretty sure it’s a cs130, front/rear air all the options, but stock otherwise. Worth an upgrade or just stick with the cs130?
The reading so far seems it’s got the an older mounting pattern so the ad244 may not be an easy option?

It may be weak and a different cs130 could perform better. Also the condition of the battery/s.
Turn everything on and see what the voltage is at idle, then 2k rpm, back to idle. If it stays above 12.6 -7v it is charging. 13v+ would be better.
