Ok, so i quickly noticed the Oriley's logos on the kragen stuff beginning of the year.

I am a kragen guy, i know there stuff isn't always as good as Napa, but for the most part, they have the brands i want, prices are ok, most things are lifetime warranty, and i know everyone that works there.

Didn't notice changes at first.

Now it seems like you cant order online and have shipped to store. Not a big deal, but you cant' get all the brands online in store anymore. Looks like the store won't order Raybestos stuff now. Before, they didnt' always carry teh best brands, but coudl get some decent stuff. Now it seems like that might not be hte case anymore. Couldn't get me any NEW master cylinder for the burb.

Hope this isn't the case with other parts there. Talked to a guy at a kragen, not my normal location, and he said they got rid of all the discounts for frequent customers, etc. but lowered most prices 10-15%.

Any other insight? Kinds bumms me out.

Parts stores are always going through changes of brands of parts. A store may stock Raybestos brakes then in a year change to a different brand. It has alot to do with profit margin.

O'Reillys bought CSK last year sometime and are slowing changing the names on the stores.

The combination of O’Reilly’s midwestern and southeastern foothold, along with CSK’s dominance in the western United States, will create a stronger, more competitive company that benefits not only the do-it-yourself customer, but also the professional installer. Read more in the press release!

That's interesting. Our Schuck's here just finished the switch and I've had the opposite experience. They have indeed lowered prices on a variety of items and are actually stocking items they only offered special order before, Moog joints/TREs most notably. They are still carrying Raybestos AFAIK (a buddy just did calipers/pads on his F-150 last week). The caliper had to be ordered so I would assume any of the stores would be able to.

I prefer Schuck's (O'Reilly's ) to Napa around here 'cause the Napa guys aren't nearly as friendly or willing to track stuff down/answer questions. Didn't know Schuck's even offered a "frequent shopper" discount, I should have looked in to that a few hundred bucks back.

Have you been using the parts catalog on O'Reilly's site? They don't even recognize the west coast chains on there from what I've seen, but the new CSK merged site works fine for me >>> http://shop.oreillyauto.com

They totally decommisioned partsamerica.com...you would think they'd have setup a forward to the new site but no dice.

Have shoping Oreilly here for the last 15 years. You cannot pay me to go into VatoZone or Advance Auto.

If you're in the east Bay, there's a local chain, Monument, that *rocks*. Most of the counter help is actually gear heads, they carry good stuff and are good folks. Ward up here @ Pacheco wanted to know why I was buying Caddy calipers when he knew damn well my gig is Chevy trucks :D There's, I donno, maybe eight or ten stores from Martinez to Livermore.

Thats good advice, but most of my work occurs in Davis.

Yeah, I couldn't remember where you are vs. where the truck(s) are.

Its all good ,neither can i :haha:

Right now i'm mainly in Fremont, with both the burb and the bimmer. Scott (4x4high) is helping me get the brakes fixed on the burb so its driveable again.

I drive through concord during every davis/fremont commute, one of these times we should get a beer or somethign when i'm not so busy.

In my neck of the woods i gave up on the three Kragens years ago. between the morons behind the counter, the lack of the simplest parts like spark plugs,PS pumps, brake parts etc. I Personally never like Napas much but the one by me is #1 in knowledge and stock unfortunatly they toore falling away it seems. No more Spicer parts,Moog is special order and only iffy, electrical stuff is low buck stuff it seems,no more Blue streak or American made Borg Werner. Autozone was good now they to have become staffed with brain dead counter help. I seriously think a "pick a part" auto parts store would kick ass. you look up the part and get it your own damn self and the knuckle head behind the cash box does just that and that only...takes the cash. It would be an improvement here...but then hey...I suppose thats why they call this SLO county. I hate to not support the local economy but when it can be had on line overnight for less without attitude to go its hard not to walk away from the stores.
