Csm's first build thread

Okay got the yolk changed and truck running for a few days. All the fluids changed and bled the brakes, they work but something is just not right. Drove it for a week or so and the o2 sensor blew out and caused the oil pressure sending unit to leak, went to replace them and the bung for the o2 is stripped out. Pulled the truck around back will get back to it later, trying to decide if I am going to replace the motor with a 6.2 diesel or other gas burner I have.

I drilled a front shaft yoke bolt right thru and used a nut & bolt for years on one of my plow trucks with zero issues..

You can buy a new O2 sensor bung or make one from a spark plug non-fouler or carve one out of another pipe at the boneyard and weld it in..

I'd leave it gas powered myself...not that I hate the diesels,I just dont think they are worth the effort to swap over to..they dont get that much better fuel milage in my expeience and they suck as far as accelleration goes compared to a gas engine..for an off road only truck or yard truck, they are better suited for that, than for city street use..

Wish I could find a shell that rust free around here in a junkyard..they just do not exist here..

Yeah most trucks around here do get rusty but I think this one lived inside most of it's life. As to the engine swap I have diesels in most all my rigs so the swap makes more parts available here at my place. Also can't find anyone who knows much about the fuel injection system on the truck. If it was a obd2 system I might would keep it. Don't want to throw money at a system that's not that great. I can hot rod a carburetor, a diesel, and a multi port obd2 system but this old in between system I don't like.

I've had real good luck with the TBI system in my 89 k5. If you don't keep it, you could easily sell the injection stuff to a member on here

Someone said I could mount the TBI stuff on a big block with a adapter and different box inside is this true?

We need some more upclose pics of this junk yard rescue.

Also, I'm not sure what your budget is, but an LS swap is pretty straightforward. That gets you the better mpg, power, and OBD2.

Pictures will be next month some time when I get back home. Already have two different big blocks one 454 Chevy and one 455 Buick that I am leaning hard towards. So no LS sorry.

Can't believe that time flies by this quick. I got the O2 and oil pressure sensor fixed now it has a blown exhaust manifold gasket I need to get fixed the little things that drive you crazy.
