cucv alternator questions

on my pass side alt i have something that is bolted to the back. looks like a capacitor thing with a wire coming out one end with a clip to attatch to a post on the back. anyone help me out with where it should go/what it does?

I'm not familiar with the military trucks,but I'd guess a capcitor was added to prevent static noise or altenator "whine" in the 2 way military radio the truck likely had when it was in the armed forces..similar to the ones you can add to prevent the same thing in your stereo or CD power lead inline..
