I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan and we have an old CUCV blazer sitting around that is used just to get around post. Problem is that it will not hold a charge. We've replaced both alternators, and have tested them to ensure we've got 12V at one and 24V at the other, replaced the batteries, and have scoured the wireing harness for any faults. Right now we have to turn on the ignition then hotwire the starter but the truck has to get put on the battery charger every day in order to start on its own for the rest of the day... then over night the batteries weaken again to the point that it won't start. Also the wait light for the glow plugs stays on constantly. We don't have the manuals for these trucks anymore.. and it's obviously completely different then my gasoline blazer at home. Anyone know where to start?

Bump, sorry i dont have an answer to your problem, but thanks for your service and its pretty cool to know these things are still being used by the military.

Cucv

Hey I have 2 blazer one civi and the other cucv. It sounds like the glow plug relay is staying on. This will eat the batteries very fast! I just bought my cucv this mounth still trying to find my way around it. I think the relay you are looking for is behind dash next to steering colom???? You need to disconect batteries complete and charge then hook everything back up and turn key you should hear the relay behind dash clicking on and off. I hope this helps. thirdminor

Thirdminor, thanks for reply, we'll check that relay and see it it helps anything. Hey, by the way.. you're CUCV you just bough... how much did you pay for it? Did you get it from an auction or what? I've been trying to find one and as strange as it sounds I can't find any around Fort Bragg. I just want the axles, tranny, transfer..and stuff like that.

I got it for 3500 w/74000 mile certifed military title. If your just looking for parts dont get the blazer get the pickup. the blazer CUCV1009 has 10 bolt axles w/ gov lock rear and 308 gears??? dont quote me on the gears. The pickup CUCV1008 is 5/4 ton w/ 14 bolt rear and dana 60 front w/456 gears??? but you can go to gov autions and pick either up pretty cheap. www.govliquidation.com (not 100% sure of web but it is somling like that..if you have any other ?s I will try to help.

well the blazer is starting on its own now.... I don't know what the last guy thought he was doing, but there were lots of stuff unhooked under the dash... i guess he may have been trying to rule out certain things that may have been the problem, but I just hooked everything up that i could find and replaced one of the batteries that tested for a bad cell. I couldn't tell which relay was supposed to run the glow plugs because everything under the dash is just all over the place so i just tested the connection right at the glow plugs for volts and there is only power present for a few seconds if you turn the ignition on.. then they turn off, so that must be working right. I don't know if maybe there is still something slowly draining the batteries and its just not showing yet because now there are two good batteries to have to drain, or if somehow just messing with everything under the dash and hooking everything up fixed it?? It's been good for a few days now so maybe it's good to go!
