My dana 60 is binding up some how. It is a open carrier. when it is in 4wd and drive the think makes a load noise and clunks real hard on the drivers side. so far I took of the hubs and everything looks fine. So what else is left besides the steering u-joint/ knuckle?

UPDATE on page 2

Thanks guys

Oops I took off the locking hubs not the actual hubs. what ever is wrong it is jerking the whole truck when it does it.

seen a binding wheel joint cause this lots of times.

had my first one bit me as i didnt know it at the time. other guy spotted it and sold the job and made the money. now i know.

stiff u-joint at the wheel will bind and pop or stiff to turn.

pm me if you want a deal on 2 new spicers for a 60.:whistle:

Ok guys so we tested my truck on my rock garden and then put into reverse and turn the wheels and the thing makes a load clunk. My drivers wheel make a binding noise and and shakes.

First I thought the locking hubs were the problem so I took apart the whole drivers side and everything looks like it should. good u-joints, / wheel bearings. looks like someone was in there not to long ago.

1) should I take apart the other side and see if some how it is being transfered to the drivers side?

2) could this be a transfercase thing? np208 chain binding

Axle joint

Took everything apart in the front end minus the king pins and everything was well greased and spinning like it should. looks like someone else was trying to diagnose this. Now I'm lost. I did notice that when I put my front drive shaft it was not Springing like my other front drive shaft. Tomorrow I will jack everything up put in 4wd and see what happens. Could I possibly have a bad transfer case that is bad in only 4wd? how would I tell take out the front shaft?

thanks for the help guys

To me it sounds like your driver's side hub isn't engaging all the way, I had a set of Spicer's on my front axle that were so worn they wouldn't engage anymore.

If you can pinpoint it to the driver's side front it isn't the t-case, you're overlooking something.

Thanks for the reply, but wouldent there be some sort of wear marks though?

UPDATE the NP 208 is acting like a NP203. It has 4w high and 4w Low no 2wd and no neutral. This is probably why the front shaft has a lot of wear on it. Every once in a while I would hear a nasty clunk when I thought it was in 2wd. I'm also sure the Truck pull did not help it either.

208 go bang . time for new or reman.

had a 208 1 time go bang and only way to get it to move was 4low to friends house just up the street and he had a 205 to swap in with swaping the tail shaft also in the tranny.
