Hey dudes. If I want to put M1009 bumpers on a 1987 K5 does this involve only bolting everything in? Including the shackle mounts, brush guard, etc?

My goal is to have non-aftermarket recovery points without fabrication. Is this possible? I feel like I'm missing info, and I've never seen a M1009 up close.

Also where have you guys found m1009 parts? Ebay/local craigslist has failed me.

Sorry, I don't have the answer but I would like to do the same to my 89 Burb.
I'll wait with ya.

Well I googled it and found a build on the SteelSoldiers forum. So I joined so I could see pictures and it looks like it is a straightforward swap. Maybe just drill some holes in the frame for the new mounting brackets.

The bumper and brushguard will bolt up, yes.

I don't remember if there are holes in your frame for the shackle mounts. I think there are, but worst case you'll hafta drill a few holes for them.

Excellent! I appreciate your help. I'm definitely doing this ASAP.

No worries. CK5 is a great place, welcome. I had an M1009 for a few years, looked like this with the front bumper off (installing a front hitch):

Also note the CUCV bumper is basically a non-chrome version of your current bumper with the extra holes for the shackle mounts (and the blackout lights.) Point being that you could scuff your existing bumper and cut holes in it, if you can't find a CUCV bumper. Or get a $99 "primer bumper" (paintable) from LMC or your local body shop.

And also note that while the fronts cross, the rear bumpers are different from the M1009, the Blazer, to all the other CUCV's. The pickup styles (M1008, 1028, 1010, whatever else) are K30 pickups so the rear frame is narrower than the Blazer.

and true cucv blazers and trucks have a reinforcement plate riveted in to the frame on the front horns along with the body mount brackets to help spread the load out of the mounting for the d-rings .

I knew the M1009 and M1008 back bumpers are different, however the 1980s era civilian K5 back bumper is basically just like the M1009's, is it not? That's what I was counting on anyways. I found your last paragraph kind of confusing.

At a minimum I'll find a M1009 front bumper + brush guard.

That's what I get for trying to give too much info :doah:

Yeah, both M1009 bumpers are more-or-less the same as the '81+ civvy. The "more-or-less" is for the shackle mounts and blackout lights.

It's all good haha. This information is simply not spelled out on the internet in plain terms. Well, until now.
