Been reading up a bit on Blazer CUCV and every spec I see says 3.08 axle ratio,T400 trans, that being tha case why do they also state 55mph max? Whats the safe max on a stock Cilivilan 6.2 powered rig?

ill do 55 in my m1008 thats stock, but my m1009 i have done 65 70 no problem

ive hit 75mph but wouldnt really call it safe, my shocks are most likely bad though, so its a bit of a unsettling ride. I cruise quite happily at 55-60 getting 20+ mpg on 33in tires.

The 55 mph rating doesn't really have anything to do with the vehicle capabilities or if the vehicle is safe at speed. Rather the military didn't want their people driving over 55 mph.

Back when I was still in my teens and daily driving my 6.2 K5 I got a couple of speeding tickets including one for going somewhere around 75+ mph (normal highway cruising speed for me at the time) in a 65 zone.

The M1009 (Blazer CUCV) has the 3.08:1, but all the others (M1008/1028/1010, etc) had 4.56:1 ... which, while great for load carrying, does rather limit top speed.

Lower ratio (numerically higher) gears mean spinning the motor up closer to redline for any given vehicle speed.

My stock M1009 would do 75-80 all day, though (1) the terrain had to be flat, as 3.08:1's don't lend themselves to hills :haha: and (2) fuel economy suffered 'cuz the motor was spinning fairly fast. It was decidedly happier in the 55-65 range.

In this regard the CUCV's are no different than a civvy 6.2.
