I ask because I stumbled across a heat control unit that says AC to far left and uses cables instead of vacuum to control selection. it looks just like a NON A/C heat control unit but says AC and has none of the other settings like Max air or Bi-level. I thought maybe a cucv item or just any diesel powered rig because they have no vacuum source??? Am i right? I don't have much experience with diesel or CUCV rigs. thanx,Crossy

The contact truck version also had A/C.

I have a contact truck, but no A/C. If anyone has one with A/C, I'd like to see how they had the compressor installed. I ran vehicle maintenance in the Air Force and we never had one with A/C, but that doesn't mean they never had them...

Could also have been something done to the individual truck we had as well.
Our contact truck had the A/C, but it also had some other odds and ends that were added, I know, by the unit.

Crossy, is that a pic of it? Cuz that's the stock non-AC:confused:

Looks like where the NON A/C says off , this says A/C , and where the NON A/C fan switch says low , this says OFF .

That's the heavy duty heater option. Sort of hard to see as well, but both the switch and blend lever are marked "off" and the fan does not work when the switch is in the off position. Doesn't really prove anything, but I believe GM stopped using the "low" fan switch/wiring somewhere in the early 80's, so that clears up the "off" fan switch position. That explains the "off" for the part in question, but not the manual portion of the AC.

I also noticed provisions for more mechanical hookups on the heavy duty heater setup that aren't used, so I'm assuming that is probably why the unused pieces on mine exist.

I have had 1009s, 1008s, 1031s and a 1010. 1010 was the only one with a/c thst i have seen. Maybe the gov has some kinda kit to put a/c on?
