Cummins 4bt in a blazer?

I want to convert my k5 to a diesel. I know the Isuzu 4 cylinders can bolt onto the turbo 350, but they can be expensive. Has anyone ran the isuzu or cummins? Which is better
 
"Better" is pretty subjective...and they've both gotten pretty darned expensive.

Both can bolt up to a Chevy-pattern automatic transmission. The 4BT's from Frito trucks and some other delivery-type vehicles already came with a TH400 behind them...you'd definitely want to find one already set up like that IMO.

Bhays would be the guy to ask here regarding the 4BT. He's laid up right now after some surgery but may be online occasionally (?).
 
Better off with the Cummins,parts can be bought at any truck service center if needed,product support,easy power with a few turns.easy to work on.Have many different engine adapters to use.
 
i would definately go with the cummins...for all the reasons stated above...easy to turn up the power...easy to fit...easy upgrades...easy to find parts...easy to work on...even better would be to put a 6bt in it....:D
 
4bt Blazer

I just finished installing a 4bt out of a Grumman Stepvan. Was able to complete the build for around $1000 bucks. bought the truck for $1500 with a 1997 reman. Pulled everything out i wanted and sold the shell for $750. Thats a Complete running low miles 4bt for $750. Can't even build a good small block for that anymore.
 
There were a few trucks at BB09 with cummins under the hoods, a white crew cab with a 6bt and a k5 with a 4bt. I dont have any pics from under the hoods but both were setup nicely
