Cummins Conversion

Thinking about putting a 24 valve cummins (98.5 - 2002) with 6 speed in my blazer. Anyone have any leads on info?
 
Was a guy over on 67-72 doing it but I'm not sure how far he's gotten. :dunno:
 
A friend of mine started doing a cummins swap about two years ago. Got sidetracked but I think he is back on the project. I haven't been to his place it quite some time to see where he is at on the project.

I know everyone says the frames of the 67-72 trucks (69-72) K5's will need reinforcement.

I know it can be done as I saw a 67-72 pickup with a diesel in it..I was at a stop light here in Modesto so I didn't get a chance to look it over but he had a cummins decal on the truck and the exahust was LOUD diesel..

Box the frame and plan on a body lift for that tranny. Honestly it would be easier to get a wrecked Dodge and put a blazer body on the frame. That poor 'ol 1972 chassis is gonna have a rough life with that beast between the frame rails.
 
Boxing the frame is already on the agenda, as well as having to fab a new front crossmemeber and tranny cross member. I'm hoping that I won't need a body lift.

1967k10: Does your brother's rig have a body lift? Also, is it a 12v or a 24v? Also, any pics would be appreciated (specifically the fron crossmember and motor mounts).
 
Here's a couple.I can get more. It's a 92' 12V and there is no body lift. We built everything so far. It's getting put off though,in favor of a newer 12V with a 7100 pump. If you're going to wire a 24V,step up to an 03'+ Common rail and really make some power :D .

do you have a fan in there? I can't really tell from the pictures. :confused:

Also, I'd put a little bigger loop in the heater core "bypass". Looks a little kinked in the pic. :D

I just met a guy from around here who is putting a 4BT in a grand cherokee. Talk about a sweet project! I went over there to get some compressor mounting bolts for my TJ's OBA & when I walked in I was like HOLY CRAP!! :bow: :bow: :bow:
He's hoping to get 30mpg out of it once he gets it running, but he does have a couple of clearance problems & he'll have to really baby it until he does the axle swaps, but he's getting real close. It'll be awesome once he's done.

He also had another 4BT with a th400 sitting in his shop. He said, "let's put one in you're blazer", as he pointed it out to me. I thought, "Oh, don't tempt me." I've always wanted a Duramax with the 6-speed in it, but I think this guy would let me have this 4BT for super cheap if I wanted to go that direction. Seriously thinking about it, but I really want a manual, & that would probably kill the budget. Although, there was this 92 2500 on craigslist. Hmmmmmm.
